Well....... it just that many have seen the playbook before on start-up LCC http://www.jetlines.ca/ This company has been ongoing past few years with grand plans for B737 purchases and they were scheduled to start some type of operation summer 2015- didn't happen. Now this NewLeaf was to start with bookings for Feb 2016, now spring is set as the revised start(booking refunds given to those who went along) citing issues with CTA. I believe there is a third company with similar proposals of some sort.
A healthy degree of skepticism amongst the chattering class is certainly understandable.

So...the local rumour-mill was saying Flair had stepped away from the deal...Is this what you're saying as well?Realitychex wrote: ....the lift they now require, not to mention the general public, that the jig was up...

As much as I dislike low paying gigs, why not just wait and see what what the wawcon will be before we pass judgement.
Also, this race to the bottom (cost at all cost) is not limited to our industry, it's everywhere. It's up to us to push back.

Well whatever the truth is, and who knows, these people are practiced at telling lies, it's good that CTA is acting to keep fiascos like this out of Canadian skies and protecting the public from losing their money or worse.

Cant anyone be positive about a new company that allows passengers to travel across Canada without breaking the bank. Of course we should be skeptical of a low cost carrier but it can only make Canadian aviation a better and more affordable market. It also creates more jobs which is great for anyone in the industry. I for one hope that this new venture makes its way out the gates.

I think the majority of posters are just being realistic. I happen to agree with the majority that if they do start up they last for maybe 3 to 6 months, unless of course they are backed financially by private investors like Porter. Just my 2 cents but I don't think ULCC business model will work in Canada.flyboyz wrote:Cant anyone be positive about a new company that allows passengers to travel across Canada without breaking the bank. Any news of this. 2 weeks now since the CTA review was supposed to be completed, hopefully both parties will fade away and die.

The CTA has nothing to do with New Leaf's problems.

Saw 2 Flair 737s sitting at the CYHM terminal yesterday. Are they just gathering dust, or are they being used?

Your move Flair. $10 they don't reboot, but then again I've been wrong before.

It is sad how industry is so protected in this country as a general comment.piperdriver wrote:I think the majority of posters are just being realistic. Ie look at the ridiculous state of the wireless industry, the real estate industry, financial planning industry. I could go on and on. What happened ie for the reforms that were to happen in these industries? Real estate is the most overpriced service on earth. After so many years the competition bureau could not force open source information. Toothless.
It's no wonder the best and brightest have so often left Canada.
This really is as so many define it a protected Nanny state, and a country club for the established. Members only!

I'm surprised it took the CTA this long to figure it out - the Go Jump On! guys have been reselling seats for a while. http://www.gojumpon.com
