Air Canada Medical Exam

Post by Turbine dog »

Hi All,

I have heard that Air Canada does a separate medical exam that goes above and beyond the TC cat 1 medical. Is this true? Can someone shed light on this? Is vision re-tested...etc? Has anyone ever failed their med exam?

Is this only for AC, or does anyone else do this? (Westjet, transat, encore, porter, jazz, etc...)

Thanks

The medical is very thorough. Many have been turned down and if they find drugs in the testing, they will report it to Transport. It has happened! Prepare the rubber glove!!!!

Why would they bother with the expense if it was just a Cat 1? Just do a drug test and be done with it.

They test all sorts of weird shit. Back in the 90's a guy told me his platelet count tested low, so he had to take drugs to get his platelet count up to pass the medical and then never again.

It's not just a Cat1.

They do a thorough blood work check amount other things.

Any indications outside the normal envelope will cause you to be rejected... But depending what it is they give you a chance to correct it... ie. get this fixed and come back and see us for a retest.

They still do a medical.

On my course of 20 a few years ago, 4 or 5 were called back in for followup medical appointments or questions ranging from vision to more bloodwork or ECG stuff.

It's not the kiss of death that it once was, they are just thorough.

Unless you are on drugs.

Just did one (granted from the PML)
Fill out four page medical history, vision test, height/weight, some kind of ear pressure test (put like a thermometer in your ear and pressurize your ear canal), lung capacity test, audiology test (click the button when you hear the beep), ECG, Bloodwork....sit down with Dr, Bloodpressure, hernia test, prostate check (to let you know AC is the boss...legit this is what the dr said...least it wasn't put your Pants beside mine).

That's it...in that order (again from a PML candidate).

Vista Cargo building, level 3, AC occupational health room. Pay parking via credit card (unless I parked in the wrong spot)

It's a good thing that AC makes their potential employees jump through these hoops otherwise their planes would be falling out of the sky like WestJet's.

Not only a physical exam, they do all kinds of weird head shit as well. And for a fat lot of good, does anyone recall about 10 years ago an AC heavy heading for Europe had to divert to Ireland when the f/o went goofy mid atlantic?
