Here is a review of the rules

Post by bandaid »

For those of you questioning why topics sometimes go away and thinking it is those bad old moderators that are picking sides I post the following for all of you to once again peruse.

The forum rules are as follows:
-any post complained about will be reviewed. This normally will mean that the topic will be pulled and discussed by the moderators.
-any post that contains:
abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-oriented material, discusses physical violence against others, or any other material that may violate any applicable laws may result in the topic being removed and the user banned.

This includes any personal attack, pornography, or nudity.

The easiest way to keep this website friendly for all, is to complain if you notice any of the above appearing in a post. Alert all moderators by reporting posts you feel have violated the forum rules. To learn more on how to report a post visit viewtopic.php?f=49&t=70619 .

You can also send any moderator or myself a private message or email to have a topic reviewed.

In any complaint via a PM or email please include:

-forum where the topic is located
-forum Subject line
-username of the poster
-date of the post
-or the URL/link http://www.........

So... why do posts about "the other forum" always disappear? I don't think that goes against anything listed... unless you considered . and the Colonel to be "sexually-oriented".

Just my thought, but I can imagine that it does not interest the owner of AvCanada to have it to be a forum for discussion or promotion of a different aviation chat website. This is someone's "place", so their rules.... You don't see Tim Horton's ads up in Coffee Time....

Given the continuous insults directed at this forum, its members and the moderators by the denizens of the other place I think this site is exercising amazing restraint. This place actually has standards and I like that.

This makes a lot of sense. After all with the number of people who are checking avcanada regularly, there must be a lot of money from advertisement revenue. Unless of course a large population of us use AdBlock. That's worth noting.

I just don't get why someone mentions . . . the other place why the entire thread is deleted, rather than just the problem posts. If someone came into a Tim Horton's and started yelling COFFEE TIME, COFFEE TIME, COFFEE TIME, would it make sense to blow up the whole building, or remove just that individual. I suppose it's up to Tim Hortons to determine what is best for them, but I like my coffee free of debris -- don't you?

I'l take this opportunity to say I do love your posts PilotDAR, i'm sure many of us appreciate your perspective and any insight you have. Thanks!

What exactly are the standards here, do they correlate to the rules? I.e. If I post here I should expect to not be sexually harassed?

Or do you have some other subjective standards that you are applying to this website from your own experience. Maybe we have a difference in opinion but the standards around here seem a bit, funny

You get what you pay for with both websites though, no reason why they can't coexist honestly.

Pepsi, and Coke. Gosh, the town's just not big enough for both of them..

I honestly can't remember the last time Pprune was mentioned on here but if comments were made of a defamatory nature or if it is complained about via the little red explanation mark it may be removed for moderation. Without the context though it is hard to say why.

Absolutely you should expect to not be sexually harassed, and personal attacks are out as well. By and large this site is respectful and friendly even when some of the more spirited discussions are going on. There's a reason for that.

Again, if you feel that you have been wronged in any way the little red explanation mark on the bottom right of all posts are there so you can report the post and we will review it.

The grey zone is discussing company reputation. Pilots can post out all the personal experiences and hearsay they want, but as soon as management calls "slander", then the mods have to do something. CADORS make it even worse, because they are occurrence reports and not convictions. Nothing is proven.

This (AvCanada) is someone's private place. They choose to allow visitors, but that is what we are - there is no entitlement to attend, and do whatever we want. Rules of participation have been stated.

Attendance here is entirely voluntary, there is no requirement to participate here. But if you choose to, why arrive here to promote another place to be? I is a little insulting to the others who have chosen to come here....

There is a poster online here right now who is a constant target of ad nauseum personal attacks on the other site. Not permitted here thankfully. Like I said...standards.

If non-stop tedious insults, uncontained narcissism and exceptionally thin skins are your thing this may not be the site for you.

Oh, you just need to filter .'s hatred of BPF, mostly idiotic arguments, inability to accept critique, and massive ego and occasionally there is good knowledge to be shared. This site has more than it's share of trolls as well.

My last post here. This is an explanation of why I posted what I did as explained to a mod, and why I'm quitting this site.
iflyforpie wrote:A post that went something like this:
[Old Dog Flying]'s over at Scattered my Cumulus Under Deck...
and the last part of the post-apolocalyptic Harrison Ford movie (not the one with the Wookie).
Getting toasted within one hour of it being posted.

I've been a significant... though not perfect... contributer to this site and have generally avoided flame wars and personal insults over the last 8 or so years.

But they're right, this site is over moderated and out of fucking control with censorship.

I'm out.
The truth is, the ideal site lies somewhere between the Nanny State here and the Anarchy over there. It's a real f*cking shame that such a small community of aviators can be so petty, divisive, and full of vitriol.
