Who Runs a Better Initial Course Flight Safety or CAE

Post by dhc# »

I know this topic is subjective, but having experienced both, I prefer Flight Safety over CAE for both ground school and simulator training.

Flight Safety has always seemed more focused on the quality of flight training, end of the day it's the same type rating. If it was coming out of my pocket I'd take the savings at CAE.

Truth be told, I just go to FSI for the unlimited Starbucks.

Training material wise FS seems to load people up with lots of good stuff. A manual, a QRH, cue cards. I think the only way I got a QRH fron CAE was that the instructor "accidentally dropped it in my bag"...I really enjoyed my training in DFW, but have never been anywhere else so I'd be guessing.

I have been to both on numerous occasions for both initials and recurrents on various types of aircraft. I have had good and bad experiences at both training providers. It all depends on the ground school and sim instructors.

FSI if you want the cuter hand bag.
CAE if you want the higher quality pen.
PAA if you want to be a better pilot.

I prefer FSI because I prefer the instructor-at-the-front-of-the-class approach. When I did my CRJ ground school at CAE they just sat me in front of a computer and I had to click slides all day.

Did my Caravan sim with PanAM when they were still in Memphis, excellent course. I think it has moved to Miami now.

They no longer offer 208 training.
