Air Canada's New Livery

Post by Oxi »

Achieving new heights
2017 marks the 150th anniversary of Canada and the 80th birthday of Air Canada, our nation’s flag carrier. On this landmark occasion, our airline is aiming higher and reaching further to strengthen our position as a global, customer-focused organization with a truly Canadian spirit.

Introducing Air Canada’s New Livery
Our new livery signals another pivotal transition point in our 80-year history and celebrates a major branding project for a globally recognized Canadian company. Together with our new uniforms, improved international cabin standard and enhanced on-board products, the future of Air Canada represents the strength of our nation and the future-looking spirit of our airline through distinct references to Canadian culture, heritage and evolution. From xsall regional airports to major international hubs, wherever we land, we fly the flag with care and class.

Is it just me or does this look almost identical to the 90's. It doesn't look modern in any way to me, it's too bad they couldn't have saved the Rouge Livery for AC because that is a good looking one.

Air Canada has unveiled a new twist on an old look for its planes and uniforms for staff, adding black to its iconic red-and-white colour scheme.

Are they in financial trouble? You know what happens when they start painting the planes 8)

They could have used some imagination. Rouge looks nice. They just stole the idea from that no brand star alliance little advertising bit.

Here's a livery that would be worth seeing. Maybe minus the one world.

I'm not sure about the waste of money comment, unless this paint scheme somehow costs more than the current, not likely though white is the cheapest paint.
Typically what tends to happen is new deliveries will show up with the new livery and as older aircraft come due for paint, I believe the cycle is every five years, they will get the new livery. If they start sending them in ahead of schedule then yes that would be a waste of money.
For what it's worth, I like it.

I think it's actually going to be cheaper according to an interview on BNN today it uses less paint which is cheaper and lighter.

I am not sure what it cost to strip and paint a large jet. I know small is close to 80G. Only way you can make it lighter is if you totally strip and repaint.

It doesn't matter.

As part of the manufactures inspection program you must strip the paint and inspect the structure. Of course - it needs new paint applied after that. I cant remember the interval off hand - but I believe it was every 12 years or so.(could be more or less)

The light blue that they currently use is much nicer in my opinion.

The new 'Zoro' livery is downright ugly on the 321:

The livery "evokes Canada's natural wonders and warm and welcoming personality"

So, we picked black.... Black, like the majestic oil sands of Alberta. Black, like the fresh paved asphalt on the 401. Black, like the leathery tail of the noble beaver. And, black, like the vulcanize rubber of the puck used in our national sport!

Nothing evokes Canadian pride better than painting something black!
