Help with the medical
Good morning,
I am new to this forum and to flying and am looking for some help if anyone is able.
I need to know if anyone might have an insight into the medical and what kind of things I should be aware of before I head in. I might have a question to ask later.
Thanks in advance for your help.
NTF.

Re: Help with the medical
Family history, or personal history with the following. Heart problems, high blood pressure, diabetes, colorblindness, and eyesight. Those I would say are the main things. My family has history of heart problems, irregular heartbeat etc. but I am f fine. They made me go do a few extra tests, stress testing on a treadmill and such. Came back clean and I was good to go.

See:
https://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/ ... u-2331.htm
Bottom line is that you have to report whatever you have been or are being treated for. As we get older we accumulate conditions, each of which may cause TC to give you more hoops to jump through.
The RAMO's office can discuss your condition over the phone and I have found them helpful for myself and others.
Staying away from smokes and heavy boozing, exercise and good diet can help keep your medical by keeping blood pressure and blood sugar under control.

Re: Help with the medical
I think that the default used to be: 'what can we catch them out on' Now it's most definitely 'how can we keep them flying'...
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

Re: Help with the medical
hoops and hoops.
i've spent the last month and a bit satisfying their requirements. As was said, as we age we accumulate medical things.
I've just submitted all the tests and supplementary information the CME asked for. I should be good to go next week. The office in Toronto where the Aviation Medical was sent has been very patient and nice every time I called for clairty, etc.. The doc that wrote my letter asking for more information has been responsive and very nice.
My issues were medical with some pretty serious things that needed addressing, but I think I should be able to get my CAT3.

If you have any serious concerns, make sure you smuggle in a clean sample of urine. Make sure it is from a subject of the same sex or else that could throw things off.

What are you worried about?
Any reasonably healthy person can pass an aviation medical.

Make sure you lay off the poppy seed bagels, unless you don't really want to see those bushmen of the Kalahari...MrWings wrote:If you have any serious concerns, make sure you smuggle in a clean sample of urine. Make sure it is from a subject of the same sex or else that could throw things off.

Here's the key - briefly answer the question you are being asked, answer only the question, and then stop talking.newtoflying wrote:Good morning,

What kind of help? Do you need to buy some clean urine or blood?

Re: Help with the medical
I asked the doc last time I was in. They test for blood in the urine, sugar content etc. (diabetes). No drug testing. It's literally a dip stick and takes 5 seconds. He did it in front of me last time.
