Re: He's back!!!!!
Thanks for the welcome Cat, yes, I'm getting better. It's slow though... I have learned an immense amount about myself, and what I value in life, while I have idled somewhat drugged four weeks in hospital. It'll be at least another four weeks before I have much independence. During this time I have learned an immense appreciation for the gracious, tireless work of nurses, always a smile and a nice word, in a less that nice situation.
We have all gathered here, as we are a community in Canada, and I have had the great pleasure of meeting many of you in person, always a delight. I am here to support the community I have chosen, and contribute to help others at least think more big, if not also expand their skills, and expectations of themselves.
I gotta say though, that having several respected mentors tell me that I (and my fellow pilot of the day) are the first people they know of to survive such an accident, and to recently hear doctors and my family tell me that they spent several days preparing for the worst, is sobering. I do know that as I went out through the windshield, I sheared the rivets of my seat belt fittings to the airframe. Life is short, appreciate it! Airplanes are cool, and fun to fly, but your family and friends are every bit as worthy of your attention too.
Sparring with well respected Photofly has a place, but I admit to having lost the need to perfect every little detail, I'm happy I can look out the window! Maybe the thrill of the spar will catch on again, but in the mean time, I'm beginning life 2.0. I don't know what it will hold, I'll let you know as I go.
I do know that life 1.999 left me with some important information about being prepared for the unexpected, so we'll be discussing that too...

Re: He's back!!!!!
First and most important is getting back to normal physically as that process evolves you will be better able to deal with the mental aspect of your accident.
Try not to recall what happened at this time and you will get better faster.
When you are well again will be the time to examine what happened and why.
Accidents happen sometimes we have no control over the event sometimes we do and sometimes there is no real clear explanation.
The important thing now is you are healing and by the sounds of it you are in the correct mind frame, so when you are fully recovered you will be back to flying again and this will all fade into the past.

In twenty years time when your kids ask how you got into flying you want to be able to say "work and determination" not "I just kept taking money from your grandparents for type ratings until someone was stupid enough to give me a job"

Re: He's back!!!!!
Thanks, I'm about halfway through an anticipated three month hospital stay, following a mid July accident. Apparently it was a bit worse than I recalled while inflating my lifejacket next to a sinking plane, and my family were told to be ready for the worst. Worst averted. Cat alludes to the fact that between a concussion and some really effective medication, I was not typing about piloting for a month.
Now, I can't walk yet.... but I can type!

Re: He's back!!!!!
in a purely from a learning experience I would like to hear what happened when you are feeling better, with more time on varied types of float planes than myself if it can happen to you it can happen to me.
