Unbelievable.
Putting pride over making the very best decisions. Buying someone else's castoffs.
Isn't our military worth the very best decision you can make, Mr Prime Minister?

Might not be bad idea to get some spare parts and more airframes to spread out the flying.
The Canadian government (Conservatives and Liberals) have been messing around with this fighter replacement for so long that even if we ordered some "New" fighters today, it will be years before they arrive. We could run out of Hornets to fly by then.

What a waste of money...
Not just these particular aircraft, but the entire process of procuring them until now...
Someone make a decision already - you want to cast off Boeing, fine but get on with it.

Re: Canada looks at the Aussie Hornet!
It looks like this is moving along - Public Services and Procurement Canada has confirmed that an expression of interest has been submitted to acquire the Aussie F18s: http://nationalpost.com/news/politics/c ... -australia.
So we are now considering spending several hundred million dollars (funded by taxes on merchandise and food discounts awarded to those hordes of entitled minimum-wage workers across the country?), to meet an interim capability gap created by successive governments' inability to run a de-politicized fighter procurement program. This will buy time to run another 5-year procurement (post the next federal election, of course) which will - and you heard it here first, folks - recommend the purchase of F35s, because the government has yet again reversed course (whiplash anyone?), and now confirms that it is open to considering any aircraft that will meet its requirements. Including, obviously, the F35, to which Canada has by the way already contributed hundreds of millions in development funding.
Stand by for the next announcement, which will be a multi-year parts contract with Alibaba or Shopify, so that Shiny Pony doesn't have to deal with those miserable sods at Boeing after he buys used F18s, which he appears not to understand were of course manufactured by those same miserable sods at Boeing...

Re: Canada looks at the Aussie Hornet!
I think the Gripen is a better choice for Canada.
Re: Canada looks at the Aussie Hornet!
Totally a political statement meant to send a message to the US
I doubt our Gov is actually considering this.
Either way I'm sure the US does not really care about our paltry aircraft order that much anyway
