The regulation isn't very clear. It doesn't say "perform", it says to meet the recency requirements for exercising the privileges of your licence while carrying passengers at night the licence holder must have "completed, within the six months preceding the flight ... five night take-offs and five night landings".
The good news is that the person who's about to tell you that you haven't met that requirement doesn't have any better idea of what it's supposed to mean than you do.
