An Old Jet Reborn

By Stu D. Guy
Stiff Writer

Back in the late 1980's as part of a major re-structering, Canadair began to sell off much of their old molds, tools and jigs of aircraft no longer in production. Long term visionary (although legally blind in one eye) Reginald 'Rusty' Nutts owner / operator of Wendigo Aviation based in metropolitan Mooseonknee, Ontario, purchased everything for the venerable Silver Star Mk. 3 from Canadair 20 years ago for a symbolic one dollar. With the encroaching Russians on Canada's northern front, Nutts had an epiphany after a heavy night of drinking at the Legion. After sobering up a week later, he took his crayons and scribbled down a proposal to build aircraft that could contribute to the defence of northern Canada. Only ten years later, his proposal was looked at. It met with much favour.

On 25 October 2017 at National Defence Headquarters, Deputy Defence Procurment Officer Of Really Neat Things Rear Admiral R. O. 'Ro-ro-ro-yerboat' O'Flanagan CD2 signed an initial contract for 60 aircraft with a conditional offer to purchase another 60 if conditions warrant so. Moosenknee Band Chief Big Joe Mukluk and his wife Tanya 'Tiny' Mukluk were on hand to sign this significant deal. He stated that old fish smoking building and the bear tanning facility will be modernised with the latest technology to ensure a world class product. Rusty was also a signatory to the official document. But since he was a tory and not a Liberal, he was left out of the official government photo.

What is unique about the new 'T-Birds' are that there are a number of versions planned including one fitted with Wipline 3000 amphibious floats. Now senior staff officers can get to their favourite fishing spots faster. There is a ski-version planned for extreme northern operations like Whistler, Banff and Jasper and perhaps he as far north as Fuqtoyamucktuck. With these options, there is really no where that is inaccessible in Canada any longer. It is estimated that the plant will be hiring 150 local people from Mooseonknee and its neighboring village Moose Fudgery. One added bonus is that the provincial Liberal government under Miss Kitty 'Litter' Wynne and her sister Wynne from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming are waving any taxes that come from BINGO games held weekly at the Church of St. Tundra who is the Patron Saint of northern flyers. The money will wisely spent on special charitable projects like big screen T.V.'s so those with hearing problems can see better and new skidoos for the chief and all his relatives.

Unfortunately this is not true.

In fact I walked my canines at the now BANFF off lease park. You can land there in an emergency but they won't be operating the new T-birds there.

Bummer really.

New Runways for Banff and Jasper

By Stu D. Guy
Stiff Writer

Deputy Defence Procurement Officer Of Really Neat Things Rear Admiral R. O. 'Ro-ro-ro-yerboat' O'Flanagan CD2 today announced the construction of two F.O.L.'s (Forward Operating Locations) at Banff and Jasper, Alberta. These strategically located airfields will be used to support the Canadian Army's Winter Warfare And Combat Skiing Training Centre. This facility will be opened next July.

The construction firm of C. and T. Argue submitted the winning bid. Each runway will be a minimum of 6,000 feet in length and covered in astro turf purchased at a greatly reduced cost from the Olympic Stadium in Montreal. When not in operation, the airfields will act as driving ranges for the Canadian Forces C.I.S.M. (Conseil international du sport militaire) team.
