Re: DHC-2 external stc
You have to pay money now to tie a canoe to your floats?
Re: DHC-2 external stc
Not if you have an approval for the load you would like to carry. Otherwise, any external load on a fixed wing aircraft requires an approval, because that load could affect the flying characteristics of the aircraft, and that has to be evaluated. You have to pay money now to tie a canoe to your floats?
Re: DHC-2 external stc
I was told once, from an old learned AME, that the DHC-2 was originally certified for an external load and that if you have the boat rack bars, no STC is required.
I suspect the original certification for "external load" referred to a very specific canoe, but I never reviewed the paperwork myself. He said it was right there in the manual (which I have not read or seen).

The type certificate for the Beaver has provisions for carrying certain external loads but not with passengers on board where some of the STC's do.
