Boundary Bay $25 Landing Fee
Alpha Aviation confirmed to me today that their upcoming "Transient" fee, which they say is a "Landing and handling fee", is in fact a simple landing fee and will apply regardless of whether any handling is needed. Supposedly waived if you buy a certain amount of fuel, the staff don't know how much that amount is though.

Re: Boundary Bay $25 Landing Fee
That's great. Sure if I land there I pay $25, but it saves several cents a year income tax my wife would have had to pay if those airports were still run by the federal government. She doesn't even know how to fly, it's no fair to charge her and other Canadians those cents every year just to have airports, and save me $25 per landing is it?
Private enterprise and a user fee structure will save us all money, while making certain the airports stay competitive.
If an airport sucks or is too expensive they will go under, because everyone will just choose to go elsewhere and spend their landing fees at some other airport.
Don't worry though the government will still increase taxes, they will find something to spend the money on. Maybe a refund for Airlines that have to pay too much in landing fees to big airports.

I guess Rudy's will lose a lot of fly-in business. Nobody wants to buy overpriced gas just to eat there.
Re: Boundary Bay $25 Landing Fee
I don't think the fuel at ZBB is particularly expensive. It's within a couple cents a litre of everywhere else in the lower mainland.
I see the fees page has been taken down. Perhaps they are going to make it a bit more informative.

Re: Boundary Bay $25 Landing Fee
I feel remorse now. Maybe, I should have just posted "Bummer!"
Re: Boundary Bay $25 Landing Fee
The rumour is that buying from the self-serve pump won't qualify... Have to buy from the fuel truck at $.20-.25 more per L.
Re: Boundary Bay $25 Landing Fee
Strange, seeing how the fuel is provided by Alpha in both cases. It's not the same as YPK, for example, where the trucks are owned/operated by the airport and the AvGas pump is operated by the Aeroclub.
If ZBB does start charging a fee, I'd imagine YPK is going to get even busier.
Re: Boundary Bay $25 Landing Fee
Don't be so quick to write off Boundary Bay. Alpha Aviation is already having trouble collecting on goofy invoices. If they move forward on implementing these landing fees, the Nanaimo method might prove successful again.
Re: Boundary Bay $25 Landing Fee
Not strange at all... Fuel from truck is always more expensive... They have to pay for the truck and driver somehow, costs that don't appear in a self-serve kiosk. Right now the question is moot, as the self serve pumps are "out of order" so the truck is the only option. Be prepared to wait, the last two people I heard from were #9 and #25 in line for service when they called (different days).
Indeed. Also CAK3, CYNJ, CYXX. All good options who are happy to have you and won't charge you for the privilege. If ZBB does start charging a fee, I'd imagine YPK is going to get even busier.
Re: Boundary Bay $25 Landing Fee
I already wondered how they would track who flew in. Will someone be paid to sit there and listen to the radio and write down call signs? If so, I think my registration will be announced as CFFKU from now on... It's currently not assigned to anyone...

hmm.. there was still some amazing pie when i was there a few weeks ago.. YNJ here i come.
Re: Boundary Bay $25 Landing Fee
The owners of the pie shop had difficulties with the airport management, and they moved their pie shop to YNJ. Someone else set up shop in their old location at YCW, but it's not the same owners. There are lots of old threads here about it.geneticistx wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2017 12:05 am hmm.. there was still some amazing pie when i was there a few weeks ago.. YNJ here i come.

I've been that way my whole life. It's not bad.

I think I'll just hop over to Delta Airpark then.
