A rare C46 back in service
Buffalo got their second C46 back serviceable. They used to have 3 air frames; 2 active and 1 in storage, but lost one in a crash landing in the fall of 2015. Now they are back to 2 serviceable units.
With this, it leaves 7 examples that are currently airworthy, 2 with Buffalo, 4 with Evert's and 1 Museum bird "Tinker Bell"
Nice to see a now rare warbird put back in service.

How about the rest of the link so it works?
Neat they fixed up another one. Probably does well for them in the north.

Re: A rare C46 back in service
Why did it crash? Can they not maintain altitude on one engine?
Re: A rare C46 back in service
Apparently, for the C46, it might be its Achilles Heal.....when loaded, they don't do well with one engine, but I think the one that crashed was windmilling and couldn't feather???
Lots and lots of C46 airframes scattered in the north, especially on the DEW line............
This is the one that crashed in 2015 GTXW. Was picked over pretty good to get the other one GTPO back serviceable.
Re: A rare C46 back in service
It wouldn't feather initially buy eventually it did.

The Pickle Lake incident happened during a heavy takeoff in a strong cross wind. Directional control became an issue and they rejected the takeoff. Once the brakes faded they departed the runway and went down a fairly steep incline into timber and rubble. One of the pilots was an acquaintance of mine who recently passed away.
