And the dismissal of your feelings by labeling them with small words just makes it worse
What are the big words that feelings should be labeled with? And should the expression that someone's feelings got hurt be used as a limit to discussion?
I didn't say my feelings were "hurt" - I'm not that insecure that an internet forum has that kind of power over me....
What I was trying to indicate was that someone who answers an honest and constructive criticism (i.e. "this is not appropriate because...") with
small labels (small, meaning belittling) is making matters worse, but I guess the laughs on me because I suppose that was probably the intent.
So sue me - I thought that I could go to an aviation forum and actually hear some good discussions about aviation, and yes, we've had those... but somehow, at some point, while people are arguing and it all deteriorates into a mud slinging contest, some guy has to start in with some sexist and/or crude comment that, when called out on it, turns into a discussion about how overly sensitive and emotional women and anyone who doesn't put up with sexist crap is.
To the original OP - this is not really aimed at you - you already said that you didn't mean to offend, and I believe you and appreciate you saying so - this is aimed at all the guys that think that any woman who stands up for her gender is being a right-wing feminist witch with a capital B and anyone who agrees can't possibly believe what they are saying but are just spineless PC automatons. In aviation, women are still visible minorities, and it just gets really old when certain members of the "majority" toss out stupid comments, jokes, comparisons, comics.... it just gets really really OLD....
I guess I'm showing my age or possibly naivete, though, to expect that any online forum could possibly be populated by enough people of enough caliber that on-topic discussions wouldn't deteriorate into snide or derogatory remarks against any particular group of people (I really miss TAF). So I'll go look for an aviation thread now. Keep the blue side up boys!
