It's OK to be quiet for a bit

Post by airway »

During cruise I enjoy getting to know the pilot I'm flying with. Finding out about his or her family/partner, airline talk, common interests, crew meals  , whatever. However, we don't have to talk the entire time we are in the air. I think some pilots that I fly with feel uncomfortable if we are not talking about something all the time.

It's OK to have 10-15 minutes of silence every once in a while.

God yes. I can go for hours saying nothing.

First thing I tell a new FO. I don’t talk much, and I’m perfectly fine with silence.

I don’t say this, but the cockpit is not a pulpit or lectern, either. All you’re going to do is piss people off. Be a preacher or a pundit on your own time.

Too much talk interrupts my reading.

While I enjoy reading in flight, I also appreciate a good conversation. Helps to pass the the time and keep you awake and alert. Personally I'd rather fly with someone who prefers to talk. Can't stand flying with untra quite types.

As long its not small talk (how about that weather eh?), I have no problem talking about interesting points. Also have no problem if colleague is quiet too, nothing like reading the downloaded news on my ipad on a long flight while sipping coffee.

Pretty much 😆
Makes the time go by real quick!
The other thing I’ve been meaning to try, have a friend that does it. Just for a little bit in cruise. If you buy a Nintendo switch, the little console has a screen and comes with two mini controllers. So it’s absolutely perfect for playing in the flight deck. We played Mario kart and Mario party a bunch, lots of fun.

You could bring your G.I Joes and Hot Wheels as well, just in case the batteries on your video game die.

....for a bit. But working with disgruntled pilots just makes my day. Especially crazy person rants

I'm just making fun. The Netflix download thing has been great for me as well. I put a few movies on my laptop tablet thing and bring the micro sd to hdmi cord everywhere I go.

That won't happen though, you can probably plug in to the EFB power outlet. Or if that doesn't work, as one of the first class passengers if you can plug in your game boy or nintendo

-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship
