Life for a guy at Transat vs AC?

Post by LGHeyyy »

Would like to hear from someone about life at Transat.

40 year old guy at an Express Carrier, AC eligibility in less than a year.
They have the same bases that would work for me, YYZ and YUL. Though YYZ isn't a drivable commute. YUL is.
Hypothetically assuming the potential for both, and for about 24 YOS would there be a reason to choose TA over AC?
Only things I can see is the schedule might be a bit lighter at TS, and better initial pay.
Lifestyle is the big question for me.
Do guys leave TS for AC?
Cheers, and thanks.

One is a charter company, one is a scheduled airline that's rapidly growing in all areas. They both might still be around in 25 years, or neither.
Yes people leave AT and SW for AC.

You probably won't ever have to worry about them throwing the chains on the doors at AC.

Yeah, this is argument I was going to make. This is all the convincing you need, AC aint going anywheres. TS? I got two words for you, Sunwing.

Of course, the security is always going to be there with AC.

If anyone who works at TS would prefer to PM me I'd appreciate it muchly.

Cheers,

Unless your seniority number is higher than a certain number.

Good times have been going on for far too long.

Transat for lifestyle, AC for pay.

All AT do is high credit flying so you'll work fewer days there in general than a narrow body AC pilot will. At 40 you won't live long enough to see the left seat of a wide body at AC.

Just for your criteria above, YUL is a very senior base at AT, YYZ is where you'll be for quite a few years I'd think.

If you're not a happy individual making 150-200k at TS. You're not going to be happy making 300k at AC either.

Ah, thanks for that. Echoes my opinion exactly.

Thank you for the comments so far.

Lifestyle is the absolute number one priority between the two.

That being said, getting to work and living where I want is also included in the lifestyle metric. What's the point when you have to sit in a crash pad for days at a time.

How is commuting at TS?

Just wanted to give this a bump..... I know there are plenty of commuters at TS, just wondering how you make it work when the schedule is alternating 1 month block and 1 month reserve?

It all depends on your SENIORITY: FO at Transat my last year T4 was 122k (includes OT) plus 9000k per diem. For the last 2 years I have been flying max 10 days per month (20 days OFF at home), home base and in my bed every nights, and I have all my week ends OFF. Too much time OFF that I am working part time elsewhere for fun and extra money. When I look at my friend’s schedule at AC...I have absolutely zero desire to go to AC! Very few are leaving AT for AC and they are the very junior FOs only...(and I recenly talked to one of them: he said it’s the same shit at AC; it’s not as green as he thought).
My opinion is that your lifestyle will suck at both airlines for the first years anyway: I would pick the first one offering a job.
