Airbus abandons iconic A380 superjumbo, lacking clients

Post by Woxof38 »

TOULOUSE, France -- European plane maker Airbus said Thursday it will stop making its superjumbo A380 in 2021 for lack of customers, abandoning the world's biggest passenger jet and one of the aviation industry's most ambitious and most troubled endeavours.

‪Just hours after Airbus announced they will be canceling the A380 production in 2021, Emirates announced a new order for 70 new aircraft: 40 A330-900neos and 30 A350-900XWB.‬

Not dead yet it would seem...

Neither of the orders quoted were for 380s. How does ordering a different type secure the future of this one?

I wonder if the A380 could have held on longer if they had the foresight to plan for a 747F-style flip-nose?

Didn't both Fedex and UPS order A380-F's early on, and then cancel them as the inevitable delays came along?
