Meanwhile at WestJet all hell is breaking loose. Quite the week.
How will pay, seniority and flow work now with Transat in the AC picture? Should be fun to watch.

Re: Air Canada Buys Air Transat
I suspect Transat was part of the Onex/WestJet plan and that's got completely ruined. I wonder if Onex will pull out of the deal now.
Re: Air Canada Buys Air Transat
There's no guarantee they will merge the companies.

Re: Air Canada Buys Air Transat
Could be a squaring off scenario between WJ aka Onex and AC and the latter feels it has to put itself in a better position. Perhaps a few more WB types combined with destinations for Rouge. I bet this buyout will be interesting should it see fruition.
Re: Air Canada Buys Air Transat
TS has some 330s that AC have been looking for.

Sure will be interesting. Let's see if AC still remembers the mess with the Canadian merger? I suspect the Air Transat brand will live on within the AC family.

Re: Air Canada Buys Air Transat
Why would you keep a separate brand that competes directly with Rouge and AC Vacations? Sorry but that just doesn't make sense.
Re: Air Canada Buys Air Transat
Can we all acknowledge how smart this is on ACs part from a predatory/protectionist perspective? TS has gates, slots, etc at airports all over Europe and the Caribbean. Just imagine if WS got ahold of that?

On the other hand that’s a lot of liabilities to hold onto should the global economy collapse... which almost every indicator says it’s going to do, soon.
Of course, I’m sure the government will be right there with their chequebook if things go south. Or do they do e-transfers now?

Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?

Re: Air Canada Buys Air Transat
Because of the TS distribution network is linked to the Air Transat brand. Maybe Air Transat will become another Rouge except now AC controls where they both go and doesn't have to fight over the price.Capt. Re: Air Canada Buys Air Transat
Rouge in it's current form disappears, "Transat-Rouge" takes over the vacation flying entirely. Allows AC to expand with the repatriated Rouge pilots. Lots of equipment shuffled around for optimisation.
Will be interesting to see what happens with ACPA/ALPA. Won't be a CPA, cause of scope. Do Transat pilots join AC/ACPA in a similar fashion to the current Rouge deal? Maybe it's the end of ACPA, and this will trigger the final push for ALPA at AC? Interesting times ahead.

Because you’re still collecting all the profit and you give people a choice.Capt. Underpants wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2019 7:36 am Why would you keep a separate brand that competes directly with Rouge and AC Vacations? Sorry but that just doesn't make sense.

Might see a WJ/Onex counter offer yet. Jerry doesn't walk this easily.

If you’re gonna talk the talk, at least get the guys name right
Reminds me of the passenger that says “ I’m friends with Bob De-loo-Chay”

,
I get your point, but you don't need to know him personally, to know he has a reputation for tenacity.
I of course have no idea what he might, or might not do. I just would not rule out a bidding war
