CAT 1 Medical additional reporting...

Post by EGW »

So I got my first cat 1 medical exam and the AME signed me off as fit to fly, but now I have gotten a letter in the mail from TC saying additional reporting is required for an ECG stress test and a measure of ocular muscle imbalance from an ophthalmologist or optometrist. How do I go about getting these tests done and sending them back to TC? Does this mean I can not obtain my cat 1?

Your all good for now. TC Medical will in turn lay dormant for typically 30 days (it should be in the letter you received) as to allow you to obtain the test results they requested. Once you have those on hand call HQ in Toronto 4900 Young St (is it?) and ask to speak with their medical department. Obtain an email or fax number that you can send in your reports and include your licence booklet number as a “header”....

You won’t hear back from them if all is within their guidelines.

Best of luck!

You could always call the doctors office where you got the medical and ask them who they recommend.
During my last cat 1 medical I asked my doctor if I was missing anything & he told me that if I did transport would send me a letter - turns out I missed a hearing test & they requested one.A quick call to the doctors office got me a name & phone number.
Turns out if you get a bill for the medical from transport then you have a valid medical, found that out after waiting 2 months for acknowledgement & finally calling to get the answer.

UPDATE:
For anyone who has a similar experience as I did I hope this helps. Four months after my initial medical exam, I have finally received my cat 1 medical certificate from TC. I took so long because I had to wait to get into see a heart specialist. Long story short, TC was pretty picky with my initial ecg after they said I had a “questionable wave pattern.” However after seeing a cardiologist for the echo (imaging) and cardiac stress test the doctor said my heart looks good and it’s completely normal for a young healthy person like me to have a “strange” wave pattern. I was pretty nervous in the months waiting for my tests and results, especially under the time crunch of getting my results into school on time, but 9 times out of 10 if TC asks for some additional tests, especially on your first medical, it’s probably fine and they just want to be sure. Hope this helps anyone who has to go through what I did!
