Re registering grass strip.
Hello all. My names Steve and am new to this forum. I have been using grass strip , was registererd in the past. New Liskeard , Ontario. CPX3. In the process of buying this property and possibly register it again. Was hoping someone might have older CFS. Or PDF of this cfs page. I had it on ForeFlight. Then When owners closed it, it was removed from cfs. Any tips /tricks to register and/ or cfs page would be helpful and a jumpstart on registry. Thanks.
Re: Re registering grass strip.
How far back was it an active airport in the CFS?
Re: Re registering grass strip.
Just took a look in a CFS I had laying around from 2014 and it wasn’t there so it must’ve been a while ago
Re: Re registering grass strip.
No big deal to register. Contact your local tc office. They will send you forms and ask for pictures. Fill them out. After about 5 months they will forward the info to navcanada. Another 6-9 months for publication. Then you wait for the next cycle for it to be published on cfs and vnc.
That is how it went for me, in a rural area. I assume if you want to do this around for example toronto city it will be harder.
Note this is registration only. Not certification.

Re: Re registering grass strip.
I started my ppl end of 2012, pretty sure it was in then. What’s the difference in registering and certified airstrip?
Re: Re registering grass strip.
If it's "certified" then it becomes an airport, and you can fly scheduled air services from there. FIgure on $100,000 of upgrades and paperwork, and a couple of years of work.

Drat. Oldest I have is 2016, although I have a BC-only from 2003.
Re: Re registering grass strip.
The rules surrounding aerodrome registration have changed significantly over the last few years.
Due to pressure from municipalities, it is now necessary to do public consultations and environmental assessment prior to registration, depending on the location.

Re: Re registering grass strip.
I was under the impression the rules for consultation etc apply only if you have to perform work to build your aerodrome. The OP already has an aerodrome and is only looking to register an existing aerodrome. I do not think the new rules apply in this situation.Bede wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 8:28 am The rules surrounding aerodrome registration have changed significantly over the last few years.

aerodrome work means work, other than work necessary to comply with a new requirement imposed by or under the Act, carried out for any of the following purposes:
(a) building a new aerodrome; or
(b) at an existing aerodrome,
(i) building a new runway for aeroplanes, or
(ii) increasing the length of an existing runway for aeroplanes by 100 m or by 10%, whichever is greater. (travaux d’aérodrome)

Where does it say anything about environmental assessment?Bede wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 8:28 am The rules surrounding aerodrome registration have changed significantly over the last few years.

Re: Re registering grass strip.
Sorry, I'm to lazy to find the reference. It was being proposed when I registered mine. I got my registration in just before the rules came into force.
Of course I could be imagining things....

I'm imagining owning an airstrip. Seems nice in my head. It might as well be on a nice island while I'm at it.

Re: Re registering grass strip.
How difficult/expensive to maintain is a gravel strip?

Re: Re registering grass strip.
You need a snowblower for winterops and a grader for summer ops if it sees regular use. In spring you can see holes and bumps.
But for the cost of all the gravel and installation, you are probably better off getting a grass strip and pay a guy for cutting and blowing. Or go really nuts and go for asphalt or concrete.

If you use gravel, might as well add budget for new props too!

Re: Re registering grass strip.
But isn't that the whole point? Enjoying your runway while you are mowing it or snowblowing it? It sure is cheaper than flying your planeBede wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2019 5:49 pmLol. so true!C-GKNT wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2019 10:07 amEveryone I know who has their own strip spends more time cutting grass and plowing snow than flyingBeefitarian wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2019 6:34 am I'm imagining owning an airstrip. Everyone I know without their own strip spend far more time driving to and from the airport than I spend snow blowing or cutting....
