ATIS Has there been a change in YVR area?
Control Zone VFR 1000 and 3.
I’ve noticed lately that ATIS information when below VFR minimums, doesn’t include the phrase, the Control Zone is operating at or below Special VFR. When below VFR it makes no mention of it.

Re: ATIS Has there been a change in YVR area?
It's because you have to request SVFR yourself
Re: ATIS Has there been a change in YVR area?
Having to request Special VFR, has been the case for years. The ATIS used to state the Airport was at or below Special VFR in the recording, which Vancouver area ATIS’s are not doing this morning.
Re: ATIS Has there been a change in YVR area?
Note the ceiling does not matter, only visibility does. If ceiling is less than 1,000' but visibility is 3 miles or more, and you can maintain VFR, you do not require SVFR. I cannot speak to the ATIS, but I believe most airports do not broadcast on the ATIS when IFR or SVFR is required.
Re: ATIS Has there been a change in YVR area?
Different airports say different things on the subject. Pitt Meadows and Boundary Bay routinely add the note that the weather is below VFR minima, only IFR and Special VFR will be approved. I've never heard Langley do so. YVR don't, though phrasing like "expect ILS runway 08 right" says something about the weather.
