Re: CATSA “ faith leaders”
There is a whole bunch of them with a variety of hobbies or personality desceiptions.
Probably an attempt to humanize security folks. A bit awkward maybe, but I don't see a political angle.

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

Indeed. I mean they tried to make this guy as non-denominational as possible. At first I was thinking snake handler? Nah. Got to be a high priest of Yog-Sothoth. He has all the telltale signs.
I'm not sure what's more depressing: That everyone has a price, or how low the price always is.

Re: CATSA “ faith leaders”
I think whoever said that it’s an attempt to “humanize” the screeners put it better than I did.
I’m tired airport security in general and the illusion of security.
If someone is hellbent on destruction ... the crew on that flight are the last line of defense.. not the “ faith leader” “officers.”
Generally, when I think of Officer I think of police or someone who holds a queens commission.. not a CATSA personnel with fake rank badges.

Re: CATSA “ faith leaders”
Mall cop...... but then I’ve seen mall cops do more to protect the public by throwing out the junkies and mentally deranged from shopping malls. These guys are more about taking away pilots coffees and passengers toothpaste.
Let’s Go Brandon
Re: CATSA “ faith leaders”
Seriously. I have ZERO faith that they will make my flight safer, having nothing to do with faith or blah blah.
Zero common sense.
Zero common sense.
Re: CATSA “ faith leaders”
I have infinite more respect for a mall cop than a screener. Most mall cops actually have some sort of security training and have the potential to find themselves in harms way. CATSA employees do a few hours of training on reading an X-ray machine and operating a metal detector and then act as if they are in the front lines of “the war on terror”.

I think if you look in Webster's you will find that is the meaning of "Theatre"taking away pilots coffees and passengers toothpaste with a crispy new uniform.

That's why it's called theatrical security or the illusion of security.
I get most of my crap confiscated on the return trip, be it toothpaste, or otherwise. One of my coworkers (non pilot) has a back pack that he uses for carry-on. One day they found a .22LR (small rim fire bullet) in his bag, they lost their shit! Funny part was that bag has been through security several times already. He hadn't been shooting with that bag in quite a while.

Just let them do their jobs.
You guys sound like a bunch of crybabies again.
Take it up with the americans if you don't like this level of security.

Re: CATSA “ faith leaders”
Thank you for framing it much more calmly than I was going to. The disrespect is astounding. These same complainers would lose their sh*t if an airline president dared utter the words, "Pilots are a necessary evil. FO's are a legal requirement".
Security screeners don't right the rules and SOPs, they're there to do someone else's bidding and nothing more. I've seen far too many examples of flight crew treating screeners like crap, then crying like 2 year olds if a customer dared look at THEM sideways.

They don't do their jobs.
They are horribly incompetent, poorly trained, and often exceptionally rude without cause.
Among the worst in the world I've seen. (India gives them a run for their money).
It is what it is.
Don't put up stupid posters with "faith leader" on it if you don't want pushback.
Just DO your job.

I'm curious, what do you think their job is?

Re: CATSA “ faith leaders”
To be highly trained security professionals. Not "faith leaders".
My comments are in context of travelling to over 40 countries and seeing how others do it. Canada should be top of the list in excellence and professionalism. I've seen third world countries with better training.
Of course the Trolls come out of the woodwork for anyone who dares to criticize.
They suck. And I'd had many experiences to back that up. They make the TSA look good.

Harassing pilots for toothpaste and 'Leatherman' violations while disregarding crash axes and steel cutlery in Business?
Everything has an end, except a sausage, which has two!

Re: CATSA “ faith leaders”
Anyone with even a modicum of capability for critical thought would figure out that a somewhat adversarial approach is a more effective way to weed out the suspicious characters in the crowd than trying to be everyone's friend. The cops don't sing Kumbaya with the suspect before they start the interview. Do you read the emergency checklist in a friendly singing voice, or in a calm, clear and professional tone?rookiepilot wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2019 8:49 amThey are horribly incompetent, poorly trained, and often exceptionally rude without cause.
