ECG and Cat 3 medical?

How often do we do the ECG for a Cat 3 medical over the age of 40?

I’ve had a Cat 1 medical for the longest time and now it’s turned to a Cat 3 because I’ve passed the 6 months over the age of 40. My last ECG was 1 year ago when I did my cat 1 so I guess I have 3 more years before my next ECG ?

Yes. However there are some fine points: You still have a Cat 1 medical; your category does not change unless you get a new medical.

However, CAR 404.04 6.3 ( https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/reg ... ge-51.html ) states: (6.3) The holder of a commercial pilot licence or an airline transport pilot licence may exercise the privileges of a private pilot licence until the end of the applicable validity period for the private pilot licence specified in subsection (6).

Now assuming you are commercial or atp, you get to exercise the private privileges until the end of the 24th month following your medical.

The ECG check triggers at your next medical, I believe the doctor will ask to see that an ECG has been done in the past 4 years (in your case). So you won't need a ECG at your next medical in ~1year. Then at your next medical after that (~3 years from now), they will ask for an ECG.
