Mooney Kaput?

Post by 5x5 »

According to this article from AOPA it seems that Mooney has shut the doors. Can't find much more about it on the web right now and Mooney's website is still up as normal. Would definitely be bad news for any owners if it's true.

https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all ... ory-closed

Here's a quote of the first paragraph of the article -
The Kerrville Daily Times of Kerrville, Texas, broke the story on November 12, reporting that Mooney has furloughed all employees and shuttered the local factory where Mooney International had been slowly turning out aircraft. Nobody answered the phone at the factory, and a voicemail announcement appeared to confirm the bad news: “Please be advised that all Mooney employees have been furloughed at this time. Therefore, we are not able to respond to your inquiry.”

Surely Mooney owners would be used to it by now. If I’m not mistaken the company has been bankrupt four times previously (1930, 1969, 2001, 2004) and nearly in 1954 plus plenty of work stoppages, layoffs, and sales.

Well they did have a Porsche engine option in the late-80s.

Boy, this on-again/off-again stuff is hell when your livelihood is involved. I feel sorry for their employees.

AVweb wrote:Employees at Mooney’s Kerrville plant, furloughed on Nov. 11 and recalled in early December, are once again out of work. The Kerrville Daily Times is reporting that employees were told to “go home” today and that the company would not be giving them the two weeks of holiday pay they were promised earlier this month.

Devan Burns, who worked for Mooney in human resources, told the paper that 55 employees were discharged today. “There have been a lot of promises,” she said. “I’ve just been trying to help keep Mooney stay alive. It’s extremely frustrating.” As we mentioned earlier, Mooney was seeking additional investment. Burns acknowledged this to the Kerrville Daily Times but said she “wasn’t sure what the future held.” AVweb will have more information when it becomes available.
