Wings Magazine, AC first female pilot.

Post by Pacqing »

Did anyone read the blurb in Wings about Air Canada first Female pilot? hired in April 1978 she became Captain in 1997. Is that about right 19 years to upgrade? Not sure where the DC-3, DHC-6 and 748 time came in.

I think it was her choice not to upgrade earlier, but I stand corrected. Lovely lady, let me use the jumpseat once on the A319.

Is that when the decline in pay started? :D

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

Quite normal for upgrades to take a long time at a flag carrier - especially if there is little or no expansion. 15+ years isn't unusual.

I'm flying with a group of ex Flag Carrier Pilots who finally got Command a few years ago at my company - they're in their 50's. They were just upgrading when their Airline went Bankrupt.

During her era the airlines switched to two person crews which caused the seniority list to shrink. A lot of flying was also outsourced to the regional connectors which also saw the list get shorter for many years. It was not uncommon for an upgrade to take 20 years. I know of one person who spent 13 years as an SO. Times were different in many ways.
