Jobs for Pilots with 250 HRS In Northwestern Ontatio

Post by 5 And Below »

Hi all,

I am currently working towards my CPL and IFR. I am graduating from a well-established flight program in Canada and wanting to find a job in NWO. I was considering Bearskin, Wasaya, Air Bravo or SkyCare. Would any of these companies hire with 250 hrs TT and allow you to get a PPC or at least work towards a flying position. Not sure in the bear would take such a low time pilot. Are there any other companies that would hire with such low time? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Wasaya does. Air Bravo probably does and Skyscare will take anybody.

Bearskin is the same company as Perimeter now, not sure how or if pilots can switch back and forth. However Perimeter has been taking 200hr pilots for quite a while.

Bearskin does as well, but only from certain programs I believe.

North Star Air.

Worth a shot. They have PC-12 and Baslers running out of Pickle and Red Lake. Elsewhere too.

Can anyone confirm whether companies looking for candidates with a CURRENT Group 1 IFR are looking for someone who is current on their 6/6/6, or is the expectation just that your still within the IPC?

i doubt anyone cares. your ppc training will revalidate your group 1 for a year anyways.

Some of the Baslers are swimming, skating and chopping down trees too. I wouldn't be betting too much on this company unless I had no other offers. 3 crashes in 2 years. How many more until their AOC is only good for toilet paper and you're looking for work again? Besides safety, I'd worry about job security as well.

Thanks. Hoping to not have to pay out of pocket for the 6/6/6 currency...

Yes it will be taken care of (night too) on your PPC/ training. Just don't be like me and have your training in June so "night" doesn't start till 11 and only lasts 3 hours lol

Bearskin doesnt as far as I know but Perimeter (they merged a year a go) does for the ramp with the possibility of moving up in 6 months to a year

Has anyone been at Wasaya recently? I heard ramp work in YPL and then they put you on the caravan for a bit.

It happens in exceptional cases with students with stellar references from accomplished programs. I wouldn't count on it.
Soo far, they seem to prefer to hire people with 800 hours every 4 months, when those same people leave once they hit 1000 hours and the airlines want them...

Working towards CPL + IR as well. Wondering if there are any operators (if any in Northern Ontario) in the East Coast or up in the Territories that would hire 250+ Hrs CPL IR candidates. Very much in need for the first flying job - any thoughts and suggestions would help greatly.

Thanks

There are plenty of jobs available for low timers; ramp, dock, CSA, freight agent, dispatch, flight follower, fueler, baggage handler, etc. The sky, is the limit.

What kind of experience would someone need to do well on a PPC for a Metro in your opinion?

Perimeter is giving a lot of ramp to flight line offers out right now, not sure what they're quoting for time. I believe 5-6 months ramping ?
If you can afford to lose money your first year working Northstar will put you on pc12 or basler within 6 months I've heard. If you're lucky you might even get the ATR.
Buffalo is pretty much offering direct entry into the dc3 and king air; quoting less than a month if you're willing to leave NWO for NWT.
Plenty survey jobs and summer positions (skydive, forestry, aerial photography) starting to pop up. A summer of PIC hours on a smaller aircraft and then you'd be good for direct entry on a Metro, King air, pc12, or be1900 I would assume.

I would have thought that the Metro would be a handful for a guy or girl with a new ticket, speed along with size. Apparently just 4 or 5 training flights before the PPC. Is this not a handful?
