Re: Corona Virus
China is shutting down. Chatted to a friend who lives in a city far, far away from the epicentre, says it's a ghost town.
Re: Corona Virus
I've heard the same. We're getting suppliers emailing with several weeks delay starting up again after the holiday.

Hardly a surprise:-
https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/ ... iddle-east
The chart in the article showing a projection of the number of cases/deaths shows how this could develop.
https://www.zerohedge.com/health/thai-g ... oronavirus
Finally some honesty! What people need to understand is that it is too late to stop the spread of this virus.

This will decimate Aviation imho. Travel bans are only going to increase and people will cancel their travel plans.

Re: Corona Virus
I'm sorry but the first article is so full of shit. 52 million infections with over 1 million deaths in less then a month from today? Yea, ok... if that were the case, and we keep multiplying those numbers, the death rate will be worse then plague... Media and people really need to relax a littleEric Janson wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2020 7:45 pm Hardly a surprise:-

Zero Hedge isn’t exactly known for its sensical reporting...
Re: Corona Virus
And if we extrapolate a bit further, one month later the infections will exceed the population of earth!twa22 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2020 9:52 pmI'm sorry but the first article is so full of shit. 52 million infections with over 1 million deaths in less then a month from today? Also nice to know a reporter claims to have evidence the chinese are lying. If that's the case, publish the evidence and cut out the middle man.
As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

Re: Corona Virus
I clicked on those links, and immediately wondered what kind of bullshit I was reading. Even a fraction of their prediction(s) would have a marked effect on the world economy - actually, it'd probably bring economic collapse in short order. As for the "Chinese are lying commie POS" trope, seriously people come up with something new - it's standard fair these days, lying governments, conspiracy theories, etc...
What makes me laugh, are all the people who claim they know... or they have evidence... of this great government conspiracy; sure they're the only one who knows or has evidence, but it's irrefutable! Of course, all these trolls never actually bother to post anything even remotely resembling evidence of anything; other than the fact that they are a troll and most likely non compos mentis.

It's a bad cold.
If only like 170 people have died in a population-choked place like China then it can't be that serious.

Re: Corona Virus
It’ll pass. SARS was a different situation. Right after 9/11 and AC was already in the red. Since then we’ve had Ebola. Swine flu, Zika virus etc. I don’t think this will be causing all hiring to grind to a halt. Not helping things but the media likes to blow everything out of proportion. Think of how many more people have died from car accidents or other things in the past month. The common flu kills many more.

Re: Corona Virus
I’m not into hysteria, but this thing is just ramping up.
SARS lasted about 6 months.
About 8,000 were infected.
About 800 people died.
People with SARS only spread the virus when they showed symptoms.
It spread to a little over 24 different countries.
The financial impact on the Global economy was said to be about 30 Billion dollars.
This nCoV has only been active for about a month now.
About 8,000 confirmed cases.
About 200 confirmed deaths so far.
There are confirmed cases in every region of Mainland China.
In one month, it’s already been detected in 15 countries.
It’s most contagious when people aren’t even showing symptoms.
Young people and children have tested positive and are spreading the virus while showing NO symptoms.
China is pretty much shuttered right now.
MAJOR manufacturers and foreign businesses operating in China are shutting down like dominoes.
Global impact is guaranteed.
I could go on.
These are just a few of the facts.
This is hardly “just another flu”.

Re: Corona Virus
I think this may very well be more serious than it appears given China's reaction.
I suspect they may already know more than we do. Time will tell.
Infectious disease experts have long felt that the viral plague which may decimate millions, will froth forth from China.
Is this the one?
On a positive note, the emergence of SARS, EBOLA, ZIKA and others, has been a boon to the vaccine development industry.
Whereas it used to take years to develop a vaccine a few years ago, we are now down to a few months.
The expectation is that a vaccine ready for treatment, not trials, will be ready by early Summer.
The challenge will be in the ability to ramp up production sufficiently.

Re: Corona Virus
No need to panic , yet.
When they start building fever sheds at the airports , that will be the time to worry .
They are still being coy about how many mutations the first virus has made. Shutting down major cities began at the 8 official death mark .
Airports ,train stations, bus stations ,highways closed
And only 171 officially dead ?
As Seinfield would say " Really "
Why would they shut down if it was just one virus .seems odd it mutated so quickly. More likely more than one virus got stuck to someone's shoe at the Lab , or
Somebody at one of those weapons labs has probably gone postal and released a few bugs for entertainment.
How long before before other countries capital cities are shut down ? As a purely precautionary measure " out of an abundance of caution "

Re: Corona Virus
Mortality rate is quite low for a virus and most people are recovering already. We just like to panic. Oh and a new Bird flu (h5n6 or something) has sprung up as well. India is still dealing with H1N1 or Swine flu
2015 India outbreak Edit
Main article: 2015 Indian swine flu outbreak
Swine flu was reported in India in early 2015. The disease affected more than 31,000 people and claimed over 1,900 lives.

Re: Corona Virus
Zerohedge?
C'mon.
According to their own projection, by today (Jan 31) there should be 16,350 confirmed cases with 337 deaths. But one of the major sites tracking the virus shows 9,776 confirmed and 213 deaths. Not wonderful but mathematically wayyyy off the alarmist predictions.
I am all for taking sensible precautions, but proportionate to the risk. An elderly resident of Wuhan with a compromised immune system is at far more risk than any young healthy resident of Canada. But since we live in an age of apocalyptic fear spread primarily by social media, of course people will be scared.
Just get a sweet rig like this one.
