Ability to Jumpseat for free on any EASA Carrier??

Post by Dronepiper »

I just heard from a colleague that Canadian Airlines pilots can jumpseat for free on any EASA carrier. All they have to do, is go to the counter with their RAIC, Employee ID, and Pilot Licence and request to be registered as Extra Crew. You don’t need to be in uniform.

Has anyone ever tried this? Has anyone ever been denied? Where did you fly? Who was it with?

First I’ve ever heard of it. I figured there’d be more talk on it if it were true.

Also, by J/S, do you mean cockpit jump or occupying a pax seat?

I would assume that you would need a reciprocal jumpseat/standby use to use this privilege, although I would love to be proven wrong and would love to hear otherwise.
I know that you can ride (actual) Jumpseat in Europe. I showed my RAIC, company ID, and pilot license and the pilots invited me up front! I believe it has to be domestic though.

So if this is true I can walk up to the KLM counter in YYZ and ask to be listed as an extra crew member? Very very interesting if true.

Considering how "jumpseating" is a very north american thing i would tend to say no.

They more then likely would just tell you to go on myidtravel and get your booking that way.

I wish you best of luck but highly doubt it you would get a jumpseat 0$ fare.

Air Canada and Express pilots can take the Lufthansa FA jumpseats internationally. Book via myIDtravel, if its full then ask the gate agent for previously mentioned.

I am not certain what the situation is these days, but the policies across "EASA carriers" was variable.

Certainly not on Lufthansa.
On Spanish airlines though, the Captain determined who could jumpseat- reciprocal agreements or not. Whilst at ACJ I often jumpseated on Iberia and the Captains were true "caballeros" (gentleman). Show company ID, valid license and medical and they welcomed you with fraternal warmth. Then again, I think the Spanish airlines were the exception in Europe, rather than the rule.

What Panama Jack states is correct - it is also the exception.

Staff travel requires a ticket. ID or Zed.

Currently the EU is the last place you want to travel to imho. We are currently reaping the 'benefits' of Globalism and Open Borders.
