USA flight following question

Post by rotorspeed »

In the US who do you contact atc for flight following if let's say you're flying out of non controlled field or your vfr and you call to get it. Canadian sectionals show the controlling agency such terminal or whatever. Us charts don't have that. If you're fling in for example southern California would it be social center? Approach?

SoCal TRACON doesn’t control all of Southern California, you can’t just assume that. Sectionals will have the wording “CONTACT XXX APPROACH” with a list of frequencies in some spots.
Another option is to look in the airport/facility directory for the airport you’re departing, even if uncontrolled.
N51 - Lincoln Park NJ says New York Approach 132.8 for example.

Or call up flight service and ask.
