8 seats or more aircraft rental

Post by Freetime »

Does anyone know of companies in Canada that rent out aircraft with 8+ seats?

Most charter companies, you even get a couple of pilots thrown in there ;-)

Privately to fly yourself? No, I do not think such a company exists.

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

Anyone dumb enough to put 8 Or more bums into a Navajo isn’t someone I’d want to rent to.

Sure, there's tons of them, they just call them leases.

I think at that size/price that you're crossing the line of charter cost for a "rental".

It also sounds like a terrible idea from a liability standpoint.

Should be ok in a Chieftain on short legs shouldn't it? I don't speak Piper, but the 402, and 421 would do it no problem.

Ho is certified for 8 seats occupied. I'd say anybody that is dumb enough to tell me that you cant use all 8 is to dumb to work for us.

I haven't flown a ho since the 80's, but, doubtful they have changed much / any since then. All it really takes is one needs to do a bit of arithmetic and confirm the all up weight is within limits, then a bit more arithmetic to ensure CofG is within limits once you have everybody in the seats. Not really rocket science, back in the day it was basic stuff we learned during PPL class.

Back in the day, I used to do 8 in the ho on a regular basis, had a very regular customer that would show up at the airport on Friday afternoon often with 6 kids in tow. That would be a horribly scary day for a lot of the modern AvCanada safety zealots. Imagine launching from the lower mainland in a ho, single pilot, IFR to the BC interior with 7 passengers on board.

How many more seats than 8 ? Might need to make several trips ?
People or black duffle bags ? Like the Amphip in Friel Lake ?

Short Ho will fit 7 pax no problem with full inboards even without the BLR upgross. Good for 2 hours and VFR reserve. Nothing stupid about it. Not something I’d want to be renting out though.
