What if you got towed in by a flock of DJI drones, a là James and the Giant Peach?

$25+$7 for a 172 type isn’t too bad if you think about it. Driving and parking downtown isn’t much cheaper. As long as you don’t have to pay any other FBO fees I don’t think it’s too much. $35 for Owen Sound is a much different story. Lol

It’s only if you land, right?

If only I had access to a T-33. That would wake up the Islanders.

The ramp fees are extra. Something like $70 for a daytime sojourn.

What gives an airport the right to set fines? You either break a law and get fined by transport, or you don't.

Or is the "fine" just a scary way to define a fee?

They have no right to impose fines, but most people don’t know that. I doubt such a “fee” would stand up in court, but it gets the message across that they don’t want anyone to land after hours, and it looks good to local residents.

Why don't they just close the airport after hours in that case?

It is closed after hours. Hence the fees.

I have no problem with the landing fee for my occasional use of such a convenient airport. I do understand that it hits more frequent users much harder, so I hope there's a method for them to reduce their costs. The ramp fees I have paid are a little harder to accept, but still, when I consider what I would pay for car parking, after a stressful traffic drive, to look forward to another stressful drive home, the ramp fee seems palatable by comparison.

In the old, old days, after landing, I'd walk up to the tower (in the old, now moved terminal building) chat to the controller, and pay my landing fee in person. I would happily say that I'd flown my wife down for a nice Toronto dinner. Generally, the controller would pass me a couple of ferry tokens, which made the landing fee well worth it. In those days, I was not asked to pay a ramp fee.

Generally, I find a modest landing fee to be entirely agreeable. I was thinking about that as I spent several hours plowing my runway over two days on the weekend. Yeah, I'd pay $35 to not have to plow the runway! There is a cost to maintain an airport, we the users have to be willing to include that in our planned flying costs...

None. I speak from experience.

A touch-and-go also counts as a landing, so I echo the suggestion above of requesting low approaches instead, if there actually is no need to land there (i.e. sightseeing).

The only part I take a bit of exception to is the 0645-0659 and the 2200- 2300
The airport is open until 2300
tripling the fees after 10 is kinda rude
I know they are trying to discourage evening flights. but the gardiner expwy right next door has no "closed from 11pm -0700" and no toll from 0645-7 and 10pm to 11 pm.
flying in to ytz for over 40 yrs now. I also got free ferry tokens from the tower.
The airport used to close at 8 on a saturday, and we went down for an evening in toronto... we were disappointed we had to be leaving by 8. the night watchman called the police and arranged a ride over at 11 pm for us. Police ran us over in a big long wooden boat (gravette?) and took us for a tour around the harbour first, put us on the steps in the channel. 1982...
Toronto the good....

There is, but you have to get past the tiger in the basement first:

I thought it was in the basement, in a locked, unmarked filing cabinet in a room with a sign on the door that read “Beware of the Leopard”.

Excellent, thanks. I've added a note and a link to the fees on 100ll.ca.
