Connect Airlines - YTZ

Post by gswartz »

A new airline is starting ops out of Toronto Billy Bishop......interesting

https://www.flightglobal.com/strategy/n ... 31.article
A new regional carrier called Connect Airlines plans to begin passenger flights in October between the USA and Toronto’s Billy Bishop City airport.

The company behind Connect is Massachusetts-based charter specialist Waltzing Matilda Aviation (WMA). John Thomas, former group executive of Virgin Australia Airlines, is WMA’s CEO.

The airline intends to link Toronto to Midwest and Northeast US cities using De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400 turboprops, it says.

“Connect Airlines will offer a premium service for day-tripping business travellers”, providing “a valuable alternative to business travellers as they start to fly between the United States and Canada again”, WMA says on 8 April.

Still unclear is from where Connect intends to source Dash 8s.

This article states that the Q400 are coming from the recently defunct Flybe fleet.

What's funny is they're looking for TC or FAA licensed pilots with work authorization in Canada to fly at their future Part 121 airline. They're looking for a hidden gem of a pilot since there are likely no pilots in Canada with time on a Dash 8 (Q400 specifically), and 1000 hours at a Part 121 airline to meet their job ad and meet 14 CFR §121.436(a)(3). Unless they're just going to hire TFWs to do the job (still probably not a lot of Americans with Q400 time that are willing to do this job).

Also, impossible to have an ATP under 23 years of age.

Not sure if they actually thought this job ad through. Probably like they haven't thought out the lack of US customs at the destinations they're looking to serve.

Must have legal authorization to work in Canada and travel in/out of Canada without restriction
• Airline Transport Pilot Certificate Multi-Engine Land (Transport Canada or FAA)
• Q400 Type Rating
• 1st Class Medical
• 21 Years of age
• 5,000 TT
• 500 Q400 TT
• 1,500 PIC Turbine
• 1,000 MEL
• Meets 14 CFR §121.436(a)(3)
