So roughly Calgary to Fort Mac with a high speed train. Not happening in Canada anytime soon. :P

So fly more, go ACB instead of AB directly ;-)

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

Honestly given the size of Europe, specifically France and the immense rail network I don't see a problem with this.

It's a sign of the things to come. Short haul and I mean likely less than 500 miles will not be done by aeroplanes. I'm not saying in the careers of the pilots starting today but it will all be about speed and with ground transit capable of 1000 km/hr plus the aircraft will be doing super and hyper sonic deliveries and that is trans and inter continental.

I think it's a good decision and more countries will likely move towards that as well.

Things change as time moves on, we just need to look back over the last 100 years of aviation. What will it be like in another 100 years, certainly not what we are looking at today. Yup H G Wells

Ottawa to Montreal I always take the train. Downtown to Downtown time is comparable to flying and it is a much more civilized traveling experience. That being said there are not many routes where taking the train is a practicable alternative to flying in a country as large and sparsely populated as Canada

Long haul will be replaced by rockets in our lifetime. The concept is already in place, less than 2 hours gate to gate anywhere on the planet. Short haul will be replaced by rapid ground transport. Pop and chips will always fly. Maybe drones though.
