Does anyone bother to register+test their 406Mhz ELT?

Did you actually read The ACK-E-04 install manual? It clearly says the system has 3 batteries and the replacement time frame.

Yes, I've read the ACK manual. That's how I figured out there were 3 batteries and replaced the one that was dead. I was talking about the battery manufacturer (Dantona), which the avionics shop installed when they installed the new ELT in the plane 4 years ago. They don't give an expiration date for their batteries in any of their literature, and there is no expiration date marked on the battery itself. This is the 6V battery for the switch, not the main battery in the ELT.

Not all ELT's have a battery(ies) in the remote switch. Artex 345 Elt's simply have a remote switch no battery required. You do have to have a wiring harness made from the ELT to the switch. It also has a loud pizo buzzer that lets you know when its active. Test gives you a series of beeps and or flashing lights that lets you know the status of a number of things including battery life left.
