Post by PilotDAR »

Has anyone heard of this reported initiative to change the navigation reference from magnetic to true?

It should start now, not 2030. I imagine Garmin is licking its chops at the thought of all the G*000 systems that are going to need (for the user) expensive (but for Garmin, zero cost) “upgrades”, but thats not a reason not to go ahead.

Here’s a copy of NavCanada’s paper:

It's been in the aviation news on and off for a few years now. I never thought it was serious proposal, but seems like it's gaining traction. Makes a bit of sense I suppose.

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

I have a Astro/Sun Compass on my book shelf that can be dusted off and "returned to service".

Maybe, though you'd have to convert it to metric sun to be up to date....

NavCanada is always interested in implementing costly procedures with little benefit for the end-user. Their analogy of the inexpensive upgrade to the CRJ is laughable.
