need some travel tips

Post by penguin »

Has anyone made the trek to the NWT's? If so I was wondering if someone might have any tips on the best way to get there? Plane, train or automobile.

Plane -> Your plane??

Train? <HAHA> just because they dumped 500 million into VIA Rail doesn't mean the cost went down, train is really really expensive..

Automobile -> Is your car reliable? Maybe rent a sedan from budget(or one of the other guys) who have the 99/wk unlimited mileage and beat the f8cker to death.... Sorry, back on track

The car is the best option because you can sleep in it, and it's "fairly" cheap, and if you plan to stay once you arrive, wouldn't it be good to already have the car and not need to go back and collect it??

Again, if you'll be staying in a hotel once you get up there, might I suggest option 4?

Greyhound, my prices are out of date but my friend went one way for $99(w/ a student card)...

So conclusion,

Car
Bus
Plane
Train

Peng, kinda late in the season, but....

If you're looking at YZF: drive, just 'cause there's a toboggan load of places to check along the way.

If, you're looking at Inuvik, the local operators have: returned staff for floats.
Operator one (wheels) does their hiring out of Inuvik
Operator two hires out of Norman Wells. Fly-in only

Hi,

Few of the travel tips to be kept in mind which will make your tour safe, enjoyable and comfortable are:-
a. Carry a small notebook & pen when you’re traveling.
b. Check in On-Line.
c. Avoid the bulkhead row on international flights.
d. Check if the country you are visiting is “toilet paper in the toilet” or “toilet paper in the trash can”.
e. Always ask for that upgrade (hotel, airline, rental car).
f. Ask for your hotel room to be away from the elevator.
g. Avoid leaks from shampoo bottles.

Thanks

Hey there,

If you 'll get my opinion about traveling tips, So ill suggest you travel with our own vehicle is the best option or if you are not comfortable with your own vehicle then you can go for plane, traveling by plane could be little bit expensive but too comfortable and always save your time and you always feel relax after the travel. And if you are going with your own vehicle then you can stay where you want to stay and you will not face any problem with rent. Hope this would you to travel.
Thanks!

Haha, super old thread but here’s my tips:

Consider Airbnb instead of hotel. Shop around for prices on flights and rooms for different dates for better deals.

Fly standby instead of confirmed.

Get your travel shots for various diseases.

Travel light-bare nessecities only.

Arrive early for all activities including flights.

Never forget your pilot badge and RAIC for fast track security.

Always ask about crew discounts and hotels, car rental or tourist activities.

Google best reviewed places to eat and sleep. Reviews go a long way and can make or break your experience.

Don’t travel with your heavy laptop-use your smartphone for everything.

Get Travel insurance or check if your work benefits cover the trip. Check your credit card if it covers travel. Get a travel credit card to collect points and also use the free lounge access with your card.

Bring cash to avoid ATM fees etc.

Stay hydrated!!! Bring Imodium for upset stomach.

Do a passport and travel document check as often as possible incase you forget it somewhere. Being stuck at an embassy is no fun and can get expensive.

I recommend standing up and walking around to get the blood flowing on long international flights.

It's been 14 years  why should any of us actually respond to the original question? The guy who asked the question probably typed another thread about how to apply to Jazz 6 years ago after serving his time up North, starring in Ice Pilots.
