CBC News

A small single-engine airplane carrying four people has gone down southeast of Quebec City.

Police and a coast guard helicopter are in the area and four military aircraft are heading to the isolated spot where the plane went down Tuesday morning.

No one has been able to reach the site because of bad weather.

Rescue officials told CBC News that at least one survivor was able to call for help but there is no word yet on the condition of the others.

The plane was reportedly on its way to Saint John.

Was listening to CBC radio about an hour ago. Reporter said the piper originated from Arnprior, stopped in Quebec for fuel.

Was one name released on the air... but I don't think we do that here..

Sorry to hear,

I met this guy at a bar over Christmas. Seemed like a real good guy. Real sad, he was just looking to build a bit of time so that he could find himself a job in the future.

Very sad indeed just to say we were all at that stage at one point, trying to build time.

Pretty sad also that some jackass tried to steel the engine the night following the crash,
they supposedly used the wing as a sled, to haul the powerplant out of the bush, but gave up after a while.
Too bad they didn't get caught...

Here is a link from a TVA news crew from the crash site.

My condolences to the family & friends.

Shame. Shame. So little respect ...

Deepest condolences to those affected, and may the recovery of the survivors be speedy and complete.

Man from Almonte, Ont., identified as second victim in Quebec plane crash

MONTREAL — A 26-year-old man from Almonte, Ont., has been identified as the second victim of a horrific plane crash southeast of Quebec City.

Quebec provincial police say Jeffrey Hugues McClymont was the passenger killed when a Piper aircraft smashed into a tree-lined mountain shortly after taking off from the Quebec City airport on Tuesday.

While police have not officially released the identity of the deceased pilot, friends and relatives have confirmed it was Jesse Barrie of Pakenham, an aspiring 27-year-old pilot whose father owns the single-engine, four-seater that crashed.

A 26-year-old woman and 21-year-old man, both from the Ottawa area, are in stable condition in a Quebec City hospital after being plucked from the mountain side during a daring rescue involving multiple military air assets.

Police spokeswoman Ann Mathieu says investigators have spoken with the woman in hospital and that both survivors are expected to live.

She says the group was headed to New Brunswick where one of them was to visit relatives.

no sig because apparently quoting people in context is offensive to them.

I didn't know you could carry 4 adults in a 150hp Cherokee.

I think the Warrier was 150 hp., PA28-151. It had four seats. You could carry pax or fuel.

From the CADORs, above
Make: PIPER Model: PA28 140
Year Built: 1968 Amateur Built: No
Engine Make: AVCO LYCOMING Engine Model: O-320-E2A
Unless it's been modified by STC (to 160hp), I think that's
a 150hp Lycoming, which in that airframe, doesn't carry
four adults very well.

I know a guy who tried, though - he literally crashed and
burned, taking off from a short grass strip not too far from
here. No one died, but one of his unfortunate pax was in
and out of hospital for years with back trouble, and eventually
had to have some vertebrae fused.

I recall another Piper Cherokee, a few decades back, that
with a few adults on board, tried unsuccessfully to outclimb
the very gently rising terrain, north of Thunder Bay. I doubt
anyone here is old enough to remember that one.

Did my flying training in a PA28-140 here in UK.

Those who fly a -140, or know someone who does, will find a sad current thread extremely enlightening in respect to pre-flight checks - sorry, not sure how to copy linkage but see;
