New Toronto VTA

Post by whistlerboy02 »

I want to say its a pretty good map overall... really good actually
But i wouldn't be a pilot is I didn't dwell on all it's shortcommings so here they are
1. The 3 East/West routes north of YYZ..... Eastbound, you would think if a Pilot is on the ball enough to fly a published route and a published freq.... you could maybe cut him some slack and maybe save him a few miles???? this route actually goes over Holland Landing?? It is way worse and encourages someone to stay low, ingnore the VTA and talk to nobody?

2. Can you throw a compass heading on the routes? I GPS'd the initial VFR waypoint and after that give me a heading and a fighting chance to see all those other tiny towns along the route? Or give me a radial and DME off the YYZ Vor?

I'll be the first to admit that I hadn't navigated soley by reference to the ground in a long time and I was crap! The chart guys could have made it a bit easier.
I guess I can add the first and last waypoint into my gps and figure it out... I am definately not going to fly the East route again its just too far out of the way when your heading to Buttonville Oshawa

Interesting thought, how about some kind of coded GPS route to get VFR guys around YYZ? Can you actually put the waypoints in your GPS or do you just plug in the lat and long?

To their credit all the lat/long"s are there right on the chart but the day I flew it I was bumpin alond at 2500 (thanks to Pearson ATC) so i put the first one in and that was enough. If I put the first and the last waypoint in for the route I could figure out the middle points out.
