Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
Ice Pilots NWT
Wednesdays at 10 pm ET/PT beginning November 2009
If no one else will do it, the Ice Pilots of Canada’s Northwest Territories will. Renegade Arctic airline Buffalo Airways defies the cold and the competition by flying propeller planes from the Second World War on missions all over the Canadian North. Landing precious cargo onto remote airstrips at mine sites, water bombing forest fires and carving out runways on frozen lakes and rocky tundra, the Ice Pilots do it all, despite blizzards, breakdowns and crazy passengers.

That's right up there with Ice Truckers, Heli Loggers, The Rig, Deadliest Catch...
Just need a little drama in any profession to make a show!

I'm sure TC guys will have a Buffalo night with popcorn, VCR's, and all kinds of notes on this operation.

I'm Sure Joe and his lawyer wrote it up so they have final say as to what goes on air. I doubt there will be anything incriminating on tv. He isn't that dumb.

Interesting the things one learns reading this forum.
I never knew we were known as " Ice pilots " all those many decades ago.

The most difficult thing about flying is knowing when to say no.
After over a half a century of flying I can not remember even one trip that I refused to do that resulted in someone getting killed because of my decision not to fly.

..
The "ice pilot" was that guy who used to stagger into the Arctic Circle Club at 2229 hours, from the minus 40 outdoors, and complain because there was no 'ice' in his rye and coke.

Should be good. They were up in the tower all spring and summer shooting and did some cool stuff from a helicopter. I think the name is to capitalize on the success of Ice Road Truckers in the US and world-wide,
Typical conversation for me on vacation the last two years:
American So where y'all from??
Me Yellowknife, Canada
American ???
Me Do you know Ice Road Truckers? [pointing at bus outside with the TV show billboard on it]
American yeah yeah yeah!
Me Yeah. There.

Re: Ice Pilots NWT
If that video is any indication of what the show will be like, they certainly don't have to worry about TC using the show as ammo for possible CARs violatons. The birds never turn a prop.
Back out on that road again

I think I saw a jug put on the '46 that didn't have a green tag on it though...
The fastest way to turn money into smoke and noise..
Re: Ice Pilots NWT
And of course, there's that pesky C-46 with a lower-case "A" in the middle of the reg.
Better call enforcement ASAP

Yeah, that looks gross doesn't it.
The paint schemes around there are Rod's handy work.
Too bad most of them, but WFT; everybody's got their kinks.

While manoeuvring at treetop level, at an airspeed of 140kts, the crew encountered a wind gust and struck a tree with the left wingtip. "Low level inspection" eh? Last I heard those were called buzz jobs. Nice job boys.

Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
The place hasn't changed much by the look of things.
My last trip in a DC3 out of Yellowknife was in the summer of 1974 when I was water bombing there. The weather was real rainy and I did a trip over to Frobisher Bay and back for N.W.T.A.
That was before Joe was flying out of there.
The DC3 just never quits they will probably fly forever.
