BlackBerry Tips Accessing AWWS
If you own a Black Berry that does not access the AWWS try the Opera Mini browser.
http://www.opera.com/mobile
I own a BB curve and couldn't get past the AWWS home page. Something about a Java err. One of the active notices on the AWWS page says that Nav Canada can only stand behind IE and Fire Fox, neither of which work on my phone.
The download was free and it worked for me.
cheers

OS 6.0 for BB will be out in another month or two, total browser rebuild that promises to be more robust, faster on the load, in a nutshell a real web browser as opposed to what they have been offering.

Just too throw this one out there....
Free E6B App -- http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/6675
Found it not too long ago. Not very many aviation apps for the BB.

Toss the Blackberry crap out, and buy an iphone. Have had three BB and they all suck. My company switched everyone to iphones, its thousands cheaper for the company and they work way better for everything.

Regardless Opera Mini is far superior to any built in web browser on any platform. If you enjoy it on your mobile device try it on your computer. It is nice there too.

'YAWS Smartphone' works great on my BB 8900. Google it to find the address.
Re: BlackBerry Tips Accessing AWWS
Blackberry is garbage. Not getting suckered into this brick again.
My Blackberry Bold (top end model) is nothing but a big waste of money. From random shutdowns, to freezing, battery pull requirements to reset looking like an idiot on the bus taking my phone apart, tiny screens, very limited selection of apps, and web browser display problems, this company is way too busy making as many models as possible to confuse everyone and never actually perfecting any of them. There are no free aviation weather apps on Blackberry App world. We have to suffer through the browser, good luck with that.
Don't waste your money. Get an iPhone.
Never met anyone who switched iphone to blackberry, that says something.
Waiting for the 4G to come out this summer and plan on lighting the blackberry on fire.
Rant over.
PS, for anyone who wants METAR on any cell phone for free (SMS text charge [10 or 15 cents per text] only if you don't have a text plan)
Just send the following text msg to 466453 or GOOGLE
METAR CYYZ
It will text you back the latest metar for free. You do not need a smart phone for this.

Re: BlackBerry Tips Accessing AWWS
Use the US ADDS site...i find it neater for TAFs and METARs.
The EC radar pages load without an issue either.
I have a love/hate relationship with my 9700 (IE unable to read pdf's without downloading a program, etc. It's supposed to be a "business" phone, but can't read pdf's?). But they've got me with BBM. The new-age MSN Messenger.
I will try Opera.

no PDFs on the 9700? my 8330 reads them natively... no download was required.flyincanuck wrote:Use the US ADDS site...i find it neater for TAFs and METARs.

Any development ?
On my curve 8530 I’m still unable to get access even with all the updates available.
Called my provider and they said its RIM ... called RIM they say its the provider ...

Opera's great! Thanks invertedav8r
...PEACE through superior firepower!
Re: BlackBerry Tips Accessing AWWS
Hehe. Blackberry is like a first generation iPhone on crutches. The best part about my BB Bold was watching it smash.
Re: BlackBerry Tips Accessing AWWS
I've been using blackberrys for a while. BBM is great, and a tactile keyboard, but that's about it... I'd get an IPhone in a heartbeat.
Tips- Download TGrape Keylock from the App world. It's an automatic keyboard lock that comes on with a timer. Prevents constant pocket dialing and you don't have to keep locking it manually. Stupid that blackberry didn't include an auto keyboard lock.
For METAR- Use http://mobilemetar.com. It's simple, fast, and has a satellite cloud/precip feed.
