Best watch?
So I need to buy a watch, and i've never worn a watch in my life.
What do you guys use? I want something that I will never need to replace, and one that has a battery that doesn't ever need to be changed..
Any suggestions? I'm going to be picking one up off ebay.

Re: Best watch for pilots?
What? I don't know the difference between a $10 wal-mart timex one or something that costs thousands so maybe someone could suggest a brand thats good quality...
Re: Best watch for pilots?
tissot touch will set you back, well worth the money.
Re: Best watch for pilots?
If you`re going to buy a Tissot T-Touch, use Amazon (US, but will deliver to Canada), not eBay.
Similar prices, and you know you`re going to get a real one.

The formula for buying a real Pilot watch is this:
Annual salary x 15 + call your banker
Annual salary x 15 + call your banker

If you are a white-gloved IFR pilot go for the Rolex GMT Master...has a 24 hour hand with 24 hour bezel.....you can have both local and zulu in one glance.
If you are a bush guy go for a simple Casio G-shock....it takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'...plus it's solar powered, has the local/GMT feature, and costs under $100 @ Costco.

Breitling Emergency. It has an ELT that transmit on both 121.5 and 406. Really nice watch if you have the $$$!

Come ON people...this is a legit question....
I'll steer you in the right direction 'son'.
When I'm in between flights, I'm on the phone steady.
So I need an all in one watch...because I'm popular and time is important to me and my peeps...
SPECS:
MP3/4/5/6/7/8/9
Bluetooth © Technology
DVD WR
VHS & BETA options
Flux Capacitor © technology
George Forman Juicer
Sometimes when I'm feeling...frisky, I like to "Jazz" things up...only because I bought this one in the Jazz duty free counter...
I use this one when I fly the Concorde...
This one I only use once a year when I'm working @ NASA.
As some of you already know...I do volunteer work there.

Seiko Sportura. There is a big price difference within the line so you can spend what you want. Its really easy to change time zones and will display two at the same time ie. the zone you are in and GMT. It has a crystal face so it won't scratch and is waterproof.

Re: Best watch?
I have a Citizen SkyHawk eco-drive (charged by light) like this one:
I paid 228$ at Costco. They have the best prices for watches.
If you want to spend more, the Breitling AirWolf or B-1 (older model), but you need to change the battery.

Re: Best watch?
Narrow it down first with- digital or analog.
I have a Citizen Eco drive (plan Jane) that doesn't have batteries. It has glow in the dark stuff on the hands, but doesn't work that well for flying IMHO. I do like it though.
Timex Ironman is a really good watch. Very functional.
I know a guy w/ a lifetime of experience that loves his cassio's
To me there's some value in a sweeping second hand. Maybe thats just me..

Re: Best watch?
If you want a watch that will outlast you with no battery your best choice is Rolex. Not the most accurate time piece but they are tough as hell.
You can interpret that however you would like.

Re: Best watch?
I'll put another nod in for the Ecodrive. Have had mine for over 7 years, never changed the battery. I just got it back from the jewler because I had to get the knob on the right fixed. Keeps time like a hot damn. I'll sync it to GMT time from the GPS clock, and check it 3 or 4 months later and it is still within one or two seconds.
Re: Best watch?
I have a Citizen - Rolex is nice but it will cost you more to run than a Volkswagen, and cost more to buy too.

Oceanus. No battery replacement, charged by ambient light. No adjustment for accuracy or DST, self adjusts through HF radio transmissions.

Yes, I have one. Note DST adjustment inop for Atlantic provinces.

Re: Best watch?
Why do you need a watch? My cellphone and
GPS already have that information.
For timing stuff for rides, I use the KR-87 -
it has a one-button clear/restart.

Re: Best watch?
Timex Dayglo.
1. It will tell you the time just as well as the others.
2. The numbers are nice and big..not little slivers or dots
3. You push a button and it lights up at night..neat for the cockpit or wherever.
Of course it wont identify you as a pilot or someone who has to try and compensate with a watch, but, considering some of the responses here, do you want to be identified as a pilot?
oh...and they cost about $30.00

And at that Price, you don't change the baterry, just the watch!!!polar one wrote:Timex Dayglo.

Seconded and Seconded.
15 years and I'm on my second Ironman. They come with a 2 time function so you can select GMT with the push of a button. Big bright numbers with the Indiglo. Been stepped on, crushed under barrels, been as low as -40C. Always works.
If ya need a status symbol, go all the way. BIG watch, gold epaulettes, gold 747 tie-tack, scrambled eggs of yer 50 mission cap and the all-important rolly bag w/ flight bag slung on back.
And as far as fancy gizmos go, everyone here heard of the 'Space Pen'?
Back in the 60s, NASA (maybe IABD volunteered on that project? ) spent moths (years?) and thousands upon thousands of $$$ to develop a pen which could write in zero gravity. The Russians just used a pencil.
