Re: Re-engined AN2
Probably an improvement over the An-3 which has been around since the 90's...

Dash-20's would be better than the AN-3 engine!
That POS is only marginally better than the GE engine on a Buffalo. 800 hours or a harsh glance. Whichever comes first!

Re: Re-engined AN2
I don't think so or I would buy one. The polish 1000 HP is fun on an Otter, I bet it would be awesome on an AN-2. Their has been a turbine AN-2 on amphibs around for some time in their homeland...

Re: Re-engined AN2
Surprises me that they are not Type Certificated in Canada; I see them tooling around countries like Germany giving "nostalgia" rides for on a for-hire basis for passengers, which suggests they have passed muster with EASA. Perhaps nobody has applied for it yet?

I guess you don't know about the Nova Scotia story.Surprises me that they are not Type Certificated in Canada
TC violently hates AN-2's and thinks they are entirely
unsuited for carrying people, or anything else.
Re: Re-engined AN2
What's the Nova Scotia story?
For a Russian bird, the An-2 is pretty damn good. Out of the 18,000+ built it only has 387 hull-losses..according to Wikipedia, so that could very well be a made up fact. But c'mon - no stall speed!

Re: Re-engined AN2
The type certification process requires the airplane to meet a basis of certification at date of application. There's no way the AN-2 can do that. It's just impractical to do.
If Transport Canada made an exception then you'd have a bunch of manufacturers registering their outrage that they had to play by the rules.
And don't kid yourselves. The Russians aren't any more lenient when it comes to certifying Canadian made aircraft in Russia.

Re: Re-engined AN2
A friend of mine from Romania has over 2200 hrs on them crop-spraying. He tells about getting in from the back door, squeezing past the spray tank, and climbing to the front. Fuel lines are visible, and control cables open to view. Maybe he was flying a junker, but it sounds like they have wildly different airworthiness standards. Adding another door would be expensive...

The roof comes off the cockpit if you need to exit in a hurry....
Re: Re-engined AN2
Panama Jack: as far as I know, the German-registered An-2s out there have to do with the former GDR.

I remember some east European guy about 15 or so years ago wanting to import AN-2's to Canada but never heard anything more about it.

Nova Scotia;
The rumor I heard was a sky dive outfit tried to run one under a special type certificate. I am not 100% sure of the details but by the time the dust settled with insurance, operating costs and TC hoops it was too cost prohibitive and they whent back to the ol' reliable 182. I would love to know more. I know of one guy who had one at CYBB but it was N registered as an experimental. One on floats would be a very interesting bird.
