Best Flying You Had
Hello there,
Was just curious to see with the general experience from avcan where are the places you guys would go back in no time. I see pilots from all around the globe on this forum I would also want to have my family with me since I have a young one at home.
I dont think I could handle being gone to the antarctic for a few months even tho I would probably love the flying. Im also open for a little bit of adventure . Flying for jazz from toronto to calgary isnt really my style. Im currently working with wife and little one at home every night in the canadian Arctic. Would I redo it again if I had to? Yes in no time, the flying is nice, I get to spend some quality family time and my wife found herself a decent job in a remote region.
Cheers,
I want to see whats your best flying spot !

The best flying I EVER did was easily when I flew privately from Vancouver area down to Seattle. Some of the most beautiful landscape you'll ever see, and flying to the US was exciting. They really don't like about the beauty of Friday Harbor and the San Juan Islands.
Here's a good looking video though. Would have loved to do this type of flying at some point.

Re: Best Flying You Had
The best flying I have done was on floats in NWO. While not as scenic as the west coast, the freedom to fly wherever you wanted, whenever you wanted was amazing. I had incredible bosses and wouldn't trade it for anything.
As a side note. While it was the best flying I have ever done it was also the hardest I have ever worked.
Now if I could just figure out how to get that kind of freedom with the schedule (and pay cheque) I have now........

Getting my glider license in 04 with the Cadets in Comox, hands down the most fun I have ever had flying.

Fire-bombing. Except for 2 months in Fort Nelson...
Re: Best Flying You Had
I hope the 2 months involved plenty of beers at Dan's Pub!

C337 patrol/survey in the Purcells, Selkirks, and Monashees, and flying floats in the same area. Unbeatable! Sometimes wonder why I left!

Don't worry Airtids, I'm enjoying it for you....
Minus the floats and T-28. Floats is the flying I think I miss the most..... and my last hour predates my owning a digital camera.

That makes me happy, Pie! You certainly seem to have the right attitude for it (your photography skills are definitely better than mine!). Enjoy...

Great question...
Hard for me to answer, I have had so many! A few highlights:
Ferrying an MD500 helicopter down through the Yukon, then later the Fraser valley,
Ferrying a Twin Otter through Africa,
Flying to ile de la madeleine in my 150,
Flying the Greenland Icecap in a Cessna 303,
Flying my family into an Island off the coast of Iceland in a rented 172,
Camping trips into various Ontario lakes in the Teal with my daughter,
But there have been so many more....

My finest year was spent in Madagascar flying for Amoco. Made great money, flew once a week, home by noon and the best fucking anyone could ever dream of bar none!!
Re: Best Flying You Had
The best flying I ever had was my first instructing job. I'd get up around sunrise in the summertime, head on out to work, fly with an excellent student on a beautiful morning then see I had nothing else to do all day. "Oh well, good thing I'm on salary here," I would think to myself, then take a short walk down to a good friend's hangar. More often than not I'd shortly be pushing a bright yellow Tiger Moth out into the sunshine to spend the rest of the day flying circuits, touring the local countryside or visiting friends at nearby airports. THAT was the best flying I've ever done, not the work part.
I learned a lot that summer, mostly that while a job should be interesting and engaging (it's easier to get good at something you like) it's important to remember that your job exists to pay for the life you want OUTSIDE of work.

Ferrying a caravan with a long time friend/coworker from YHM to Montevideo, Uruguay. 23 legs in 8 days.
Ferrying a Navajo from West Africa to YYC. Went mechanical in scotland, had to layover for 4 days waiting for parts. sampled some amazing whiskies!
Ferrying a King Air from Berlin to YLW.
Of course, flying in the kootenays....ZNL, YCG, YRV, CAD4, etc.
Flying bizjets to Napa, Aspen, SFO, and the approach over Diamond Head on Oahu into Honolulu.

Re: Best Flying You Had
G'day
Best flying I have ever had is hard to nail down. It is a a toss up between flying low-level over the ocean in a CP-107 Argus in the nose, flying NAPE in a CH-135 Twin Huey or sitting on the edge of the ramp of a CC-130 Hercules searching for lost souls. In the attached photo (May 2011) we were at 300 feet A.G.L. just south of Timmins, Ontario.
Cheers...Chris
