A380 stuck in YYZ

Post by fundi »

Lots of ppl went to hotels last night as the 'whale' had issues leaving YYZ.
Any ideas; it looked like the nose gear was cranked from pushback or the nose steering went AWOL.
Poor buggers!!

When I was there last night they called out the fire trucks to the 380. They were all clustered around the nose gear along with 5-10 other vehicles.

From what I heard ground handler jack knifed it during a tow to the gate.

Not sure of the damage.

How does one "jack knife" the nose gear when you are pulling it to the gate? It must have been on a push.

I have pushed back everything from a Jetsream 31 to a 747. The bigger they are, the easier they are to push back.

Overheard on Toronto ground many years ago:

"Toronto Ground, Millardair 234 for the push."

"Ahh..Millardair 234 Ground, say type of aircraft."

"Beech 18." :D

I saw them push off the gate on Monday evening and next thing i know it is parked and never left. They did ferry an A380 up from JFK on Tuesday to replace it as UAE7204 https://flightaware.com/live/flight/UAE ... /KJFK/CYYZ

From what I was told as they were towing to the gate the tug made a turn and the weight of the whale jet started to push the tug causing the jack knife.

Does the brake rider communicate with the tug?

Is there a brake rider?

Why did ARFF need to come out? We're dealing with a broken airplane nosegear, not a plane that's pissing fuel or landing 3 red.

I hope they bill them through the teeth. It's not like they can't afford it, stiffing us the bonus again...

It's hardly a coincidence that profitability decreased and bonuses disappeared the same time the A380's showed up on the property.
