Yeah.... I'll post some stuff too one of these days. Photography has kind of taken a back burner to building a plane.... damn aviation taking all of my time and money!
Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?

Re: Avcanada Posting Etiquette and Consequences
I agree that you are forced to tighten the sight up in terms poster etiquette. This is the result of our increasingly politically correct world meshing with our increasing litigatious society. This site has matured much since its early days when pretty much anything passed for a thread, and often threads were nothing but personal. Now however as more advertising money is courted and the site becomes a business in its own right instead of a place to discuss the business of aviation, it must be run like a business. The danger here is that when you become a business in your own right you run the risk of losing your edge and your innovation, the very thing that drew people to your site in the first place. Yes, when you become vanilla, you reduce your risk of being sued or held accountable, but you also increase your risk of becoming irrelevant as a new site with edge and bite surfaces to fill the hole left when discourse here is restricted. This is a normal evolutionary course for all business. I suggest caution when controlling your posters as they are also your customers.
This has for many years been a good site and I hope that the moderators are able to strike the right balance between free speech and corporate governance or we could be witnessing the proverbial circling of the drain.

I've always been curious, as a longtime reader and a recent member, how do mods become mods?

The first rule of Mod Club is not to talk about Mod Club.
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

Re: Avcanada Posting Etiquette and Consequences
There is a very long vetting process involved to ensure the applicant is "sound" of mind and body. Special emphasis is placed on being politically reliable and compatible with modern standards of acceptable communication.
It's not unlike becoming a member of the Naples Florida Yacht Club .... must be considered to be:
1 - of "sound background" ... (no actors, or others of low social standing)
2- Sponsored by 3 current members of good and true standing;
3- Pay a $10,000 per year fee to maintain a placeholder position on the potential members list awaiting an opening in the club;
4- Upon being found conditionally acceptable by the Board Of Directors, immediately pay a $30,000 initiation fee;
5- Be placed "On Approval Status" for 5 years, during which if any other member in good standing should file a complaint indicating the new member "isn't fitting in," an Investigation Board will be convened to hear a defence against the allegation.
Failure to convince The Board that the applicant has a high probability of successfully integrating into the Naples Yacht Club may result in disciplinary action ranging from public or private admonishment, fines or penalties, and perhaps being excluded from membership. Should membership be revoked, the applicant's name will be expunged from the historical membership records.

Ha, I bet Naples has another dock.....

All said briefly, accurately and to the point! Awesome!
Re: Avcanada Posting Etiquette and Consequences
As a poster who's been given the odd time out by the mods I can think of only one time I really disagreed. The other times I expected it because I knew I was crossing the line with a particular post (had to be said regardless), and afterward I've written them to say I agreed with their judgement and decision and "no hard feelings". I very much appreciate the value of this site in large measure because the mods do their jobs and keep things from spinning out of control. I also very much appreciate their tolerance with certain threads until things get spinning too fast - in which case their judgement and timing in shutting things down is in my opinion spot on. Even if I'm the cause.
Bravo...and please keep up the good work.

I said “Happy New Year” like 9 times tonight. Might not have happened if I hadn’t read this thread. Thanks IWBD!

Re: Avcanada Posting Etiquette and Consequences
There are a number of people on this Forum whose sole purpose is to criticize and attack whatever others write, Regardless of subject, who never have anything positive or constructive to write about anything. It seems to be their purpose in life.
Too bad. AvCanada could have been a nice Forum.

This place has gone downhill. There are a few valiantly trying to keep it normal. BPF, DAR etc. There are others that are killing it. they know who they are....

Hey,youtub vanced
Losing the equivalent of PPRuNe Jet Blast was a blow. Without an outlet for venting, off-topic subjects can hijack threads. Here's to hoping the new rules help maintain focus. Good luck.
