Ice Pilots Back
They are back again. Final season it says. I hope not since i like the show. Nothing else on the tube.
Has Joe mellowed a bit?
How long can they keep to old clunkers flying? Those mechanics do wonders and the guys that fly them

Re: Ice Pilots Back
Why don't they get a step so they get on to the wing on the DC-3. Running and jumping on ice doesn't seem like the safest way to do it (from my southern Canada office boy fair weather pilot perspective). But they do have the safety vests on so that must make it safe.

As long as they meet the airworthiness standards. How long can they keep to old clunkers flying?
A bigger issue for Joe is finding pilots who want to fly them. ( Or can. )

After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

looks to me that they're going to run out of parts before they run out of pilots...

Re: Ice Pilots Back
is the Basler conversion another bad decision considering the age of the airframes?

Re: Ice Pilots Back
I believe that the Baslar conversion on the DC3 gives the a/c a zero time airframe. I could be wrong though.
Re: Ice Pilots Back
So...they should have been grounded as soon as the airline started operating them?As long as they meet the airworthiness standards.
Sorry but that show is a tremendous embarrassment to the industry. Even if everything screened is contrived for entertainment purposes, the show exudes contempt for safety. If there is a sliver of reality there, it's amazing to me that they haven't made more smoking holes in the landscape.

Are you saying Joe does not keep his airplanes up to airworthiness standards?So...they should have been grounded as soon as the airline started operating them?

Rhetorical?you are overdosing on rhetorical questions.
You are saying Joe does not maintain his airplanes to the required standard?

Re: Ice Pilots Back
I don't think that was a rhetorical question... it's a perfectly valid one in response to a particularly bold and potentially libellous statement.
Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?

Exactly my feelings Ifly, Ice Pilots is a TV Drama series made for public entertainment.
Posting comments that seem to say Joe operates outside of the law is quite a serious thing.
However if there is valid proof that Joe does in fact operate outside the law then these posters are well within their rights to expose it.

I know this is going to get the children all fired up, but I worked for outfits, just like Buffalo, with the same type of planes....but no Electras. Brian Harrison worked with me. We were both aspiring engineers back then. We did the same shit, take one part off one plane to get the other in the air. Competition for contracts was fierce. We all worked like dogs to keep it going and move the freight. Yeah, I know, times have changed and it's a much better world now.

I'll try to remember that comeback. Nice
Re: Ice Pilots Back
This is where reading comprehension would works wonders. I made no libellous statement about "Joe" or "Buffalo Airways". What I stated was "If there is a sliver of reality there, it's amazing to me that they haven't made more smoking holes in the landscape." So are we talking about "Joe" owner of "Buffalo Airways" or "Joe" the guy on the show that is portraying the head of the company featured on Ice Pilots?Posting comments that seem to say Joe operates outside of the law is quite a serious thing.
I have absolutely no evidence of any wrongdoing, illegality or safety breaches of the featured real-life air operator or it's owner(s) but as for the television show, the company portrayed should be perma-grounded. They break more rules in an hour than most operators break in a year. And yes, regardless of the amount of show content that is staged or "phoney" it's embarrassing. Some people think that it's "reality"......that operating an airline in the north is "inherently dangerous". (Quote from the show....not me)

Re: Ice Pilots Back
I have mixed feelings about Ice Pilots.
For sure it is hyped up to the extreem, however that is what TV entertainment shows are all about so I try and ignore that part.
I do however enjoy seeing those old airplanes still flying in that enviroment and it brings back many memories for me.
I never worked for Joe but we have been friends for about forty years.
When I flew there it was for Bob Engles who owned North West Territorial Airways and he was a great employer.
Considering the enviorment these companies operate in their accident rate is quite low.

Re: Ice Pilots Back
Can't be that difficult - back in the 40s, they were letting guys go solo in them with under 500 hours. There's just as good pilots around now as there were back then...Cat Driver wrote:A bigger issue for Joe is finding pilots who want to fly them. Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

Re: Ice Pilots Back
FWIW, the airframe does not go back to zero time. Lots of new parts, but if it had 30000 hours before it got converted, it still has 30000 hours.darbel wrote:I believe that the Baslar conversion on the DC3 gives the a/c a zero time airframe. I could be wrong though.

Wow...how the heck does someone get that conclusion out of what CID wrote?Posting comments that seem to say Joe operates outside of the law is quite a serious thing.
He never even mentioned Joe's name
About a TV show??potentially libellous statement.
Geez...wonder how many times Siskel & Ebert were sued?
