FAA ATC going private

Post by whoop_whoop »

I just watched Trump announce the "privatization" of the FAA ATC system. It will be handed over to a private, not-for-profit agency in what sounds like a similar fashion to Canada. He specifically announced that Canada did this about 20 years ago, with good results.

In typical fashion, he proudly announced that the new US system would be better than any other country in the world, by a long shot!!

I actually wonder if NavCanada would have an interest in taking over part of the ATS for the US airspace, particularly where it intersects with Canadian Airspace. I know the focus has been on space based ADSB, but I'd think there's be some synergies if you had one provider for all that airspace.

Which isn't to say that it's not working now, just some curious speculation about the future possibilities.
