Re: Pull starting a 206
I've used this procedure to start one engine of a DC-3.
As you correctly said - you do what you have to do.

Incredible, I would have had a tough time believing that without the video. How do you ensure the line does not continue with the prop and wrap itself around the hub?

Re: Pull starting a 206
I have hand prop started lycoming O320 engines many times. I am comfortable and competent with it. I know 206 has a stronger and faster engine and prop, but not by much. I know this truck pulling method makes perfect sense ( only in NWT for a DC3 as Eric Jansen mentioned.
For the exact same reason CL-SKADOO mentioned, Is it not less risky to hand prop start in this situation?

Just make sure the starter is disengaged secure and not going to damage the engine before any non standard procedures . A tap with a rubber mallet on the starter , check connections , faulty switch , vacuum the brushes , tap starter with a hammer a couple of times blow it through with compressed air . Might just be dried oil on the bushes , one of the reasons to be careful filling the engines with oil , that and a dirty engine compartment is a fire hazard of the preventable kind.

I'm absolutely delighted to see this being done to an "OO" registration. Never thought that would happen nowadays. I'm sure it helps it happened in Africa, but still... Neat!
As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship
