I know that I'm widely considered to be some
kind of a retard, but I would personally prefer
to do that, instead of flying a jet full of smelly,
grumpy people from one large, grimey,
soulless airport to another.

Strictly speaking, that could be you and Eric in an L39 on a hot day.

Actually the L39 has wonderful air conditioning
(ECS) - at least, after the throttle goes forward
on takeoff.

It's a standard newbie thing to be alarmed at
the "snow" falling in the cockpit during takeoff
on a hot, humid day!

The ECS on it is more than a little frightening,
actually. It will do things that no certified
aircraft ever would. For example, on the
right side panel, there is a tiny switch where
you can flick the ECS from "auto" to "manual".

If someone does that while they're sitting in
the cockpit, fooling around, and the heat is
turned all the way up, you will get 325C bleed
air in the cockpit. No typo. Over 600F. Bet
your oven doesn't get that hot on self-clean.

Had a write up today, the AC wasn't putting out. Had to open the windows mid flight.

The Jungle Jet spray's snow during the midwest humid-hot days. It also pours out condensed air, looks like the black plaque coming out of the vents. Pretty neat. great trick to play on the FA's if the timing is right.



Pseudo back on topic, the Stinson was giving me piss poor takeoff rolls as of late. Took it to the A&P; on the taxi in the left brake lost all pressure. Turns out the caliper/puck had some corrosion and froze. Cleaned up the puck and dropped of the new brake pads yesterday. We'll see what a 150-Franklin can do in the Southern Alabama heat.
