Post by iamnomaverick »

Can anyone share the new pay scale under the new contract ? I know it is $36 per credit hour now for the first year but looking for above and beyond that for FO and Captain.
Thanks

Could anybody be so kind as to explain "credit hour"?
Is it gate to gate, or duty hour, or some mystical formula?
Thx!

It's brake off to brake on. You get paid sked or what you fly whichever is more. Min. Is 4.5 per day. Varies with type and base but I think month average is around 80 without overtime

Actually we are paid one of 5 ways:

- flight time....from brakes off to brakes on throughout the whole day...not less than 4:30
- duty ratio of 2:1........you work a 14 hr duty day, but fly 5 hrs flt time your pay is 7:00
- min credit......you fly 20 min YYZ-YXU...duty for 3 hrs....pay is 4:30
- the fucked up way....for every 4 hrs away from base you get 1 hr of pay...this is fucked up and @#$! Jazz for using this rule more and more

- training pay.....4 hrs for the day

If Jazz pilots are getting paid by this method then it must be in the CA. So the pilots are upset because the company is following the CA

Call it a loop hole in the contract, it's supposed to be a worse case scenario however there are four day pairings that check in late on day one and transition to very early on day four with a 28 hour layover away from base. Translation a day off on the road!
Because of the duty rig of 4:1, when you check in late and out early, the credit for a four day pairing is low compared to a typical four day, some are even less than the minimum credit would be.
The company wants to cover flying with overtime yet sees fit to have pilots sitting in a hotel for 28 hours. If I'm already working 17-18 days because of these pairings, you won't see my fat ass at work on an actual day off but apparently this hasn't bit them yet because the pairings in question have been around for at least four months.

So every two weeks what will your take home be as a new first year FO? I know second pay cheque will be bigger because of the Per Diems.

If someone could just put a solid $$$ figure for every two week pay....I'd really appreciate it.

Also are you on Salary for Training?

Per dieums aren't on your paycheck. They are deposited directly into your account the same day as your 10th pay.

Your second cheque is actually a hair smaller tha the first as it is only worth 40hrs of pay (midmonth advance). You are paid your full block on the 10th, and the deduct 40 hrs of it to be paid on the 25th.

As for a $$$ amount...everyone is different wrt deductions.

Amazing how things have changed over the last decade. We used to be so smug in Canada about how well our regional pilots were paid compared to the U.S.

Jazz $36 an hour Canadian which is around $26 USD,

Republic first year $40 an hour or about $55 Canadian (plus a $7500 signing bonus)

That is the bottom-end, but I am willing to bet their top-end is nowhere near what the Jazz guys are making...dollar for dollar.

Have a look at the pay scale here.

http://www.airlinepilotcentral.com/airl ... c_airlines

You would need to be a 6 year F/O at Jazz to be at first year Republic pay based on todays exchange rate.

Top Captain is about $120/hr at each company, then factor in the exchange rate.

I'll admit that I cherry picked the data here. It's interesting to see how things have changed though. Back in 2011 when the exchange rate was about par and a Jazz F/O was making 60K easily and a U.S. F/O would be lucky to crack 40K, it's been a complete reversal.
Pay rates increasing in the U.S and decreasing in Canada, add in the exchange rate and its a 180 degree turn.

This is not an excuse for low starting pay in Canada.... but exchange rate based comparisons are opportunistic and meaningless except to the bean counters calculating CASM in a constant currency. For example, when the US dollar was underwater, perhaps CDN pilots were overpaid?

Bottom line is you buy your groceries, your car, and your house in CDN dollars. Dollar for dollar the starting pay in Canada is too low. But it has nothing to do with exchange rate fluctuations.

Or none of those things with the current pay for a starting FO...

I beg to differ. You groceries' price, car's price, gas prices, etc are all influenced by how our $ is doing compared to other currencies, including the USD.
